AMESBURY, MA. – April 29th, 2014 – One month since "testing the waters" in the Pirelli World Challenge, the Turner Motorsport team is ready for Round 3 of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship at one of North America's road racing jewels, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. The Turner BMWs have proven to be competitive on this 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course, most recently capturing a second place podium finish in their last visit in September.
Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala will team up in the No. 94 BMW Z4 GTD for their third consecutive race in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship. The duo has proven to be extremely consistent and strong at both Daytona and Sebring attaining two top-ten finishes. Cameron, a northern California native, is no stranger to the twists and turns of Mazda Raceway with a 2012 Rolex DP Victory, P3 Qualifying in 2013 and a pole in Star Mazda.
"Growing up in Northern California, I always look forward to a trip home and racing in front of my friends and family at Mazda Raceway. It's one of my favorite circuits in the country and it has a great rhythm to it. I think it will really suit our BMW Z4. After Sebring slipped away from us everyone is incredibly motivated to push for the win this weekend," said Dane Cameron.
Markus Palttala looks forward to his debut at Laguna Seca. "I'm excited to be back in the Turner BMW this weekend. We were very competitive in Sebring, but IMSA has changed the rules for our car. Hopefully the changes will not impact us too much. The BoP has changed, but I know we have a very strong package. Turner Motorsport has always given us a great car and we work well together with Dane. Laguna Seca is new to me so I need to learn the circuit, but I'm ready for the challenge and it's a track I've always wanted to race on."
Michael Marsal returns to Mazada Raceway Laguna Seca seeking his second consecutive podium. Last season Michael Marsal and co-driver Billy Johnson scored their best ever second place finish in the Turner No. 93 GT M3. This year Marsal teams up with Tom Kimber Smith in the No. 97 GS class M3 looking for similar results. The pair is off to a strong start in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge scoring a podium finish in the BMW Performance 200 at Daytona and a thirteenth place finish at Sebring. Going into Round 3 Marsal and Kimber-Smith are just one point out of second place in the season championship standings.
"Last year was fantastic! Our Turner BMW was flawless and the results reflected that. I am extremely excited to get back there in the No. 97 GS M3 and see what Tom (Kimber Smith) and I can do. We have been working hard testing this month and I feel confident we will be competitive."
