BMW Dealer Team UK driver Mat Jackson makes his way to the final round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend as the ultra-competitive series concludes at the picturesque Brands Hatch circuit in Kent.
The Accident-Exchange-backed driver has already been awarded two accolades this week: his second HiQ Champagne Moment Award for his stunning drive from 13th to victory at Silverstone and the Official BTCC.net fans trophy. However, Jackson arrives at Brands in search of the most important accolade of all, the Independents’ Trophy and will battle it out with fellow BMW driver Colin Turkington as the pair go head-to-head for not only the Independents’ spoils but for third place in the overall BTCC Championship.
The Henley-in-Arden-based driver has enjoyed a fantastic season which has seen the 27-year-old claim eight podium finishes, three victories and dazzle the BTCC fans on several occasions with his flamboyant driving skills in treacherous race conditions at Croft, Rockingham and Silverstone. He has also had to endure the other end of the emotional scale with frustrating results in which he was denied valuable points and narrowly missing out on podium finishes.
The BTCC series started its ten-round Championship at Brands Hatch back in March where Jackson set pole in qualifying and went on to claim two podium finishes; a result sheet which paves the way for a strong and exciting finish from the BMW driver this weekend.
Jackson commented: “We know the car suits the track, we know that we have everything to fight for this weekend. I am three points behind Colin in the overall table and 22 in the Independents’, my aim is two-fold: to finish ahead of him in both categories, which would be a perfect ending to what has been a varied but enjoyable season.
Team Principal Tony Jackson commented: "In some respects all of the teams’ hard work will come down to this weekend’s result, which is a testament to the quality of competition in the British Touring Car Championship as is the closeness of the points after 27 races. We are fully prepared and very much looking forward to returning to the Kent venue and hopefully leaving with the required results.”
Qualifying for rounds the final three rounds takes place on Saturday 20 September at 15.40 with the treble bill of racing taking place on Sunday 21 September at 11.35, 14.25 and 16.35.
