BMW Dealer Team UK endured a frustrating afternoon at Silverstone circuit today as driver Mat Jackson qualified in a disappointing 14th place for the penultimate round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Earlier in the day, the Accident-Exchange-backed driver demonstrated promising form around the 1.63-mile Northamptonshire circuit as he claimed two consistent fifth places in the morning practice sessions. However, the team struggled to find its earlier pace during the 30-minute qualifying session. Jackson, who was qualifying at Silverstone in the BTCC championship for the first time, initially set a good lap time but as the pace increased the 27-year-old was unable to improve on his time.
Jackson commented, “Obviously, we are really disappointed with that performance given the results earlier in the day. I’ve definitely got my work cut out for me in the opening race tomorrow and I will be intent of salvaging something from the disappointing grid position.”
Team Principal Tony Jackson commented, “Most of the times were set in the first part of the session but some oil was spilt under the bridge on the entry to the first corner, after which we were unable to improve on our grid position.”
Race one for the British Touring Car Championship is at 11.20 tomorrow with race two and three at 14.05 and 16.45 respectively.
