WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, Watkins Glen, NY (July 9, 2008) -- Turner Motorsport BMWs put on an exciting and impressive racing show this past weekend at Watkins Glen Raceway in upstate New York. The #97 M3 earned the pole and led the race and the #96 M3 capped off the team effort with a podium finish in the 250-mile race. The #95 330i was also in the hunt in the ST class, exhibiting race-winning speed all weekend and ending up in the top ten.

The race was filled with excitement and non-stop drama with multiple caution periods, pit strategy, and a climactic finish for the Turner BMW squad. The #97 H&R Springs/Nova Derm/OCG/GoToPuertoRico.com BMW M3 with Don Salama and Bryan Ortiz started from the top spot and led the field away for the first several laps. The team decided to pit all three BMWs early when it was clear that they could race the rest of the way without another fuel stop. The #96 and #97 Turner M3s then slashed their way through the field, following one another up through the 73-car field. The #97 M3’s race ended abruptly when another competitor lost his brakes and collided with the Turner M3.

The #96 M3 continued on its blistering pace and moved into the top five with a little less than an hour left to go. The Turner Motorsport strategy was working well as other cars stopped to pit and the Motul Lubricants/StopTech Brakes M3 advanced up to second place with 20 minutes remaining. The M3 hounded the leading car for the remainder of the race but could not find a spot to get around him. Bill Auberlen and Matt Alhadeff scored a well-deserved podium finish and the race’s fastest lap.

In the ST class, the #95 H&R Springs/Borla Exhaust BMW 330i driven by Matt Bell and VJ Mirzayan started eleventh out of 39 ST class cars. They had been near the top of the time sheets all weekend and had put together a great race strategy that positioned them well into the top ten after the early pit stop. A minor incident cost them some positions at the end but they still ended the race in ninth place. They also posted the third-fastest lap for the ST class around the 3.4 mile course.

Turner Motorsport races in the Koni Challenge series with some of the best names in motorsport and street technology - H&R Springs, StopTech Brakes, Borla Exhaust, Pagid Brakes, Motul Lubricants, and Piloti Driving Shoes.

The Koni Challenge series is back in action next weekend, July 18-20 at Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham, Alabama. The race will only be for the GS class cars – the #96 and #97 Turner Motorsport M3s. The 250-mile race at Barber will be on Saturday at 2:15pm local time and broadcast on The Speed Channel July 26 at 2:00pm ET.
