It's round 4 and the Turner squad turns up the heat.
LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY, Monterey, California (May 17, 2007) -- Turner Motorsport BMWs return to Laguna Seca this weekend, holding the championship lead in the Street Tuner class and ready to pounce for the lead in the Grand Sport class. Turner Motorsport's three cars and six drivers are all in the top ten in points with the #95 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i, driven by Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood, leading the KONI Challenge ST class standings.
Burrows and Hopwood have put together back-to-back podium finishes in 2007 at Homestead and Iowa Speedways. This has propelled to the class lead in the Street Tuner Driver's and Team Championships. With Turner Motorsport's record at Laguna Seca – two top fives in the last two years – the rookie duo are confident ahead of Saturday's race.
Trevor Hopwood, #95 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i:
"The main thing is we know we are going to have a good car this weekend. Turner's guys do a great job. This BMW is really well balanced and the StopTech brakes are fantastic so hopefully that will play into our hands for the race."
In the Grand Sport class, the Turner Motorsport BMW M3s have been nipping at the heels of the leading Ford Mustang in each of the three tracks this season. With the first three races at speedways, the Turner drivers feel that a proper road course will better suit the BMWs this weekend. The M3 pilots occupy 5th (Gleason), 6th (Salama and Turner), and 7th (Auberlen) in the GS class standings.
Will Turner, #96 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW M3:
"We've been looking forward to these next few races – Laguna Seca and Lime Rock next weekend – so that our BMWs will be more competitive. Our battle for the championship really starts now although we've put up a pretty good fight so far. The Mustangs and Porsches have had it easy for the first few races. We're hoping to heat things up starting now."
The Turner Motorsport team is supported by many key sponsors and technical partners: H&R Springs, StopTech Brakes, Borla Exhaust, Pagid Brake Pads, Motul Lubricants, and Piloti Driving Shoes. Their assistance is invaluable in a championship-winning team.
This weekend's racing action gets underway on Friday with practice and qualifying sessions. The ST race gets underway Saturday afternoon at 12:20pm. The GS race will start at 9:05am on Sunday morning. Both races will be 112 laps/400 kilometers. Living Timing & Scoring will be available, as well as, a radio broadcast of the race through the Grand-Am website, www.grand-am.com.
Laguna Seca is the first of back-to-back races. The KONI Challenge series will dash back to the East Coast for a Memorial Day race at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.
