MONTEREY, Calif. – Tom Long will take his first green flag at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, and he will do it from the front row. Long qualified second for the KONI Challenge Grand Sport race in the No. 99 Automatic Racing/Fresh from Florida BMW M3.

Long and David Russell have been consistently fast this season in the No. 99 BMW, but they are still trying for their first podium of the season. After Long’s fast qualifying time of 1:36.621, they hope to parlay the front row start into a win.

“The plan is to keep up front for as long as possible, make sure we get a good pit stop, and then get David back to the front,” said Long. “Our cars were strong in qualifying but the Mustangs haven’t given up. We know they’re going to be a factor later on in this race. The M3s are great here but we know from the past three races we’re going to have to fight for a win.”

Jep Thornton qualified sixth in the No. 09 Automatic Racing/Fresh from Florida M3 with a time of 1:37.247. Thornton and Jeff Segal earned a third-place finish at Iowa Speedway last month.

Jon Miller got the No. 99 Automatic BMW around Laguna Seca in 1:37.600 for the tenth spot on the starting grid. Miller and Own Trinkler are co-driving this weekend.

Tim George, Jr. completed the Automatic Racing lineup with his 12th-quickest qualifying time of 1:37.707 the No. 91 BMW. George is once again co-driving with Conrad Grunewald, and the two have proven to be a formidable team after a strong debut at Iowa.

The Grand Sport race begins at 9:05 a.m. PDT on Sunday.
