Road America Friday Practice

The one-hour session today - one of the Speed GT season's longest practice sessions - allowed BMW Team PTG to get down to the business of tuning its BMW M3s for Round 7 of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship at Road America.

After the team got its first laps on the 4.0-mile, 14-turn circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wis., yesterday, today's session saw Bill Auberlen fifth fastest (2:20.813) in the 26-car field. Boris Said was seventh (2:20.962), Hans Stuck 12th (2:21.737) and Justin Marks 14th (2:22.876). Marks is driving Team PTG's spare M3 for the remainder of the weekend, after his primary car was damaged yesterday.

A second 45-minute practice session is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with qualifying at 1:00 p.m. The 50-minute, standing-start Speed GT race is scheduled to start at 11:20 a.m. Sunday.

BILL AUBERLEN, NO. 7 BMW TEAM PTG M3 (fifth):
"The M3 is very good today and is repeating what we did yesterday. It is always good to see that as it means we are close and do not expect anything strange to come up. After we take care of a few little issues tonight we will be ready for tomorrow."

BORIS SAID NO. 6 BMW TEAM PTG (seventh):
"Lots of people were blowing up and crashing at the end of the session so there was a lot of oil down. But all in all, things went well for us today. I am pretty happy with the car - we are close."

HANS STUCK, NO.8 BMW TEAM PTG M3 (12th):
"It was very nice to have such a long session. It gave us the opportunity to try some things that normally we do not have the time for. Even better was that whatever we tried we kept coming back to yesterday's setup and that is always the best. I had some pretty old tires on today so we will start tomorrow on new ones and look to go faster."

JUSTIN MARKS, NO. 80 BMW TEAM PTG M3 (14th):
"We made some progress, but with so much oil on the track it was difficult to get a fast time. We are not there yet so we will work hard in tomorrow's session."
