DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – All four of the Automatic Racing BMW M3s qualified in the top 20 for Friday’s Fresh from Florida 200, the opening round of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge season at Daytona International Raceway.

Tom Long posted the fifth-quickest lap time in the 15-minute qualifying session for the Grand Sport class. This weekend marks the first time that Long has driven with Automatic Racing, but the talented 24-year-old proved that he knows the fast way around Daytona with his 2:02.903 lap time in the No. 99 Fresh from Florida BMW M3 that he shares with David Russell.

“It’s exciting to be able to qualify the Fresh from Florida car fifth,” said Long. “There is just so much energy going into this weekend, especially since Fresh from Florida is also sponsoring the race. Qualifying on the third row is a great way to start things off. The BMW is fun to drive around here, and I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow.”

Jep Thornton also had a solid qualifying session, putting the No. 09 BMW M3 into the ninth position with his time of 2:03.618. Thornton is co-driving with Jeff Segal, a talented 21-year-old driver who is returning for his second season with Automatic.

The No. 90 BMW M3 will start the race from the 13th place on the grid thanks to a 2:03.945 by Jon Miller, who will be driving with Owen Trinkler in Friday’s race.

Pete Argetsinger drove the No. 91 Automatic Racing BMW in qualifying, setting a fast time of 2:04.473 for 18th in the huge 61-car Grand Sport field. Argetsinger and Tim George, Jr. will share the driving duties.

The four Automatic Racing BMW M3s will get the green flag at 2:15 pm on Friday, January 26. The Fresh from Florida 200 will be a three-hour race around Daytona’s high banks and infield road course.
