Formula BMW Germany race schedule for 2007.
Formula BMW to make two appearances abroad in 2007.
Munich, 05 March 2007. The young driving talents of Formula BMW Germany will be battling for the championship title on nine race weekends this season. Beyond the events in Germany, the drivers will also be appearing abroad on two occasions, chasing points on the North Sea coast in Zandvoort, Holland, and at the Spanish grand prix circuit of Barcelona.
Spectators at three different race series will be able to size up the skills of these drivers, some as young as 15. Formula BMW will be staged as part of the support programme of the DTM (German Touring Car Masters), the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and the pinnacle of motor racing, Formula One.
Seven appearances as part of DTM race weekends will see the junior contestants head for the Eurospeedway Lausitz, the Norisring city circuit in Nuremberg and the big season final in Hockenheim, among other venues. The races hosted by the WTCC will be held in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.
The absolute highlight of the season will see races seven and eight run against the backdrop of the Formula One event at the Nürburgring from 20th to 22nd July. Even before the new season begins, there are already five winners among the young racing hopefuls: Brazilian Pedro Bianchini, Luuk Glansdorp of Holland, German Kevin Mirocha and French driver Adrien Tambay were selected for BMW backing after sponsorship trials.
Jens Klingmann, supported by ADAC Stiftung Sport, is as the best rookie of 2006 also part of this group. The Formula BMW Germany Juniors will receive financial backing for the season to the sum of 50,000 euros and may take part in BMW's Education and Coaching programme. The programme comprises special seminars on driving technique, chassis set-up, sponsoring, fitness and PR.
Here the youngsters benefit from BMW Motorsport's longstanding experience in the field of talent promotion and from the connection with the BMW Sauber F1 Team. In total, 27 drivers from 11 countries will line up on the grid for this season's Formula BMW Germany. The series is a symbol of EU expansion, with drivers from the new member countries Romania and Bulgaria participating for the first time.
Travelling from furthest afield are the Brazilians Tiago Geronimi and Pedro Bianchini, along with Colombian driver Carlos Gaitan. Germany furnishes most of the participants at just under half of the driver line-up (13), along with the only female competitor in Formula BMW Germany: Marlene Dietrich.
