BMWs Battle Against Competition Adjustments |

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - 04/03/2006 - Will Turner was the highest-finishing BMW driver in yesterday's SPEED Touring Car race on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Turner, piloting the #2 H&R Springs/EdgeRock Technologies BMW 325i started from the fourth row and advanced several positions in the course of the race to finish in the sixth position.
After the win by Bill Auberlen and Turner Motorsport in the opening round at Sebring, the series officials levied heavy penalties against the BMWs: 100lbs additional minimum weight, a lower rev limit by 400 rpm, and a mandatory shift in the weight distribution to 52% front/48% rear.
At the start Turner avoided a starting line melee that resulted in the race's only caution period. The racing resumed on lap 6 and after seven laps of green flag racing Turner got around a slower BMW and set his sights on the leaders. Were he not saddled with the additional weight, Turner could have made it a tighter battle at the front. With a sixth-place finish - the only BMW in the top seventeen - Turner is not un-happy. He credits the performance of the StopTech Brakes and H&R suspension setup as his advantage over the other BMWs.

"My car was great and I drove a great race but I don't think the BMW would have won with its current configuration. I think everyone should have a chance at winning but the penalties that SCCA handed out made it hard for us to advance in the race. It essentially made it an Acura-Mazda battle at the front. Qualifying said it all - the top three rows were all Mazdas and Acuras."
Turner, an experienced Touring Car driver and multi-time winner in the series, regularly races a BMW 330i in the Grand Am Cup series and a BMW M3 in SCCA Club Racing. However, Touring Car racing provides a thrill for Turner, who won his first race on a temporary street circuit in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1999.
