BMW TEAM PTG FAILS TO FINISH IN HOUSTON |

Houston, Tx. - May 13, 2006... For the second time in as many races BMW Team PTG failed to finish as both BMW M3s experienced mechanical problems and were forced to retire from last night's American Le Mans Series Lone Star Grand Prix in Houston, Texas.
Starting ninth, the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 of Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand completed only 50 laps around the 1.69-mile temporary street circuit after two long stops in the garage for repairs to the brake system.
The No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 of Justin Marks and Martin Jensen started seventh and was racing in the fifth position before being forced to retire on lap 25 with a driveshaft failure.
"Although my race was a short one, I was happy with the pace of the No. 22 M3," said Marks. "We made progress in finding the setup here. Unfortunately, just after I passed for the fifth position the driveshaft coupling failed on a downshift."
"We have definitely been fighting a brake gremlin here," said Auberlen. "We thought we had it fixed, but on the second lap of the race the pedal began to go long again."
Hand added, "After I reentered the race I knew the brake problem was not fixed. We brought the car back to the garage one more time and replaced more components. I rejoined, looking to collect some points, but was finally forced to retire. Now it's no stopping for the crew as they must fix the problem for Mid-Ohio."
The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio will host the third round of the season on May 21st with the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio. The race will be broadcast on CBS television beginning at 1 p.m.
