BimmerWorld Rolls Into St. Petersburg To The Power of Three Championship contending BMW team sets sights on the podium

Radford, Virginia (March 27th 2006): With Sebring in the history books, BimmerWorld Racing drivers, James Clay, Seth Thomas and Paul Goldman, will take the fight for the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car championship to St. Petersburg, Sunday, April 2nd. The race is part of the IndyCar Racing League Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

While development continues on the BimmerWorld E90 BMW 325i’s, scheduled to debut for round 3 at Mid-Ohio, the team will use their successful E46 BMW 325’s.

BimmerWorld owner, James Clay, talked about the new E90 and his company’s commitment to doing things right: “BimmerWorld has a reputation of always presenting well-prepared equipment to the grid.
As the first US team racing the new E90s in North America, it is extremely important that our cars properly represent BMW and BimmerWorld. With that in mind, we’ve set round 3 in Mid-Ohio as our target date to introduce the BimmerWorld E90 325.”

Seth Thomas, [#38 BimmerWorld BMW 325i] in his third World Challenge Series season, talked about his outstanding run at Sebring. “Sebring was a great week for the BimmerWorld team,” said Seth. “We finished with two drivers in the top-10 and I think Paul would have easily been in the top-15 if not for his misfortune on the starting line.”

Thomas had the crowd on their feet with his outstanding start at Sebring. Seth found himself pressuring eventual winner, Bill Auberlen, in the early laps and battling with Randy Pobst for second.
Seth finished his day sixth. “My BimmerWorld car always gives me a good launch, so I had a great start,” Seth continued. “I had my brake bias settings a little off, but once I got that right and settled in, the Performance Friction brakes made all the difference. I’ll get it right in St. Pete. I’m excited about being back on a street course. It’s a lot of fun!”

James Clay [#36 BimmerWorld BMW 325i] also remains upbeat about the team’s results and their chances at St. Petersburg. “I was happy with Sebring,” said Clay. “I had a brake issue that popped up and hurt me in qualifying and a little in the race. I think I could have finished higher. We learned a lot this weekend - the Performance Friction brakes we put on the car over the winter are phenomenal. We’ll be at St Pete with a fully sorted package, and that’s important there.”

“I love temporary circuits like St. Pete,” Clay continued. “Plus, I think they (SCCA Pro Racing) have evened the field to a degree – though, unfortunately the recent competition adjustments will probably put the BMWs at a slight disadvantage at this track. St.
Pete is somewhat of a ‘point and shoot’ style track. Regardless, BimmerWorld cars did well there last year. Every weekend our crew provides us with a better car, so I am looking forward to driving the BMW to it's deserved position on the podium.”

Though Paul Goldman [#37 BimmerWorld BMW 325i] did not post a time in Friday’s race at Sebring, Paul was pleased with the progress he and the team made. “I was extremely pleased with the team,” said Goldman.
“The BimmerWorld BMW’s performance during the week in Sebring was fantastic. Though I was more of a spectator when my car experienced a mechanical problem at the start of the race, Sebring was an outstanding BimmerWorld effort.”

“I am really looking forward to St. Petersburg,” Paul continued.
“Having never run at St Pete or on a street course, this will certainly be new for me. It’s a flat street course with limited run- off, but I think that makes the playing field a bit more level. I’ll use the practice sessions to put a lot of emphasis on learning the course.”

Once again, the BimmerWorld Racing team will be led by crew chief Jason Marks, winner of the 2004 Zimmerman Cup, an award given to the Crew Chief of the Year in the SPEED World Challenge Series.

The Bimmerworld team will be at the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Series event March 31 – April 2, in St. Petersburg as part of the IRL Indy Car Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, in Florida. The events will air tape-delayed on SPEED Channel with SPEED GT on Sunday, April 2 at 3pm and SPEED Touring Car on Sunday, April 2 at 4pm. TV Times are EST.
