At the Erzberg Race in Styria/Austria, the Finn Simo Kirssi and stunt world champion Christian Pfeiffer demonstrated the potential of the BMW HP2 Enduro in the summer of 2005. Finishing 1st and 5th respectively, they caused a stir in the legendary Prolog rankings of the off-road spectacle, captivating spectators and BMW fans alike. Now the two top BMW riders are set to prove they are up to the task on snow too. Up against 58 enduro competitors, the BMW riders will line up for the first Snow Speedhill on March 4th 2006 on BMW HP2s which are largely equivalent to serial production machines.
Simo Kirssi and Christian Pfeiffer have high hopes for themselves in this sprint race on a ski slope at the Götschen ski centre in Bischofswiesen, Upper Bavaria. "It'll be really exciting. I'm use to riding on snow as I keep fit in the winter by enduro riding in the Finnish forests. For other people it may be quite a new experience," says the Finnish off-road professional. Chris Pfeiffer is also highly motivated: "I love this kind of unusual, extreme situation. Obviously full throttle is what counts here and the power of the HP2 will give us a good chance. Whether it will be enough is yet to be seen - it's certainly going to be interesting."

The licence-free race is being organised by the off-road specialist Baboons in cooperation with BMW Motorrad. The "race track" is 800 m long up a steep ski slope, with no spikes or chains allowed. There are neither categories nor special entry regulations. The competition is based on a simple principle: the winner is the one who is first past the post. Any street-legal enduro and motocross machines with commercial-grade massive bar tyres can take part. The exhaust or noise level is limited to 94 dB(A). The thundering 2-cylinder flat twin BMW machines will keep spectators on their toes and are likely to be the life and soul of this spectacular event.

A maximum of 60 riders are admitted for entry. A qualifying round of 12 races with 5 riders each decides on participation in the next round. The first three go through. Two more qualifying rounds with nine and six races each produce the six best riders for the final race. Here the finishing order determines the winner and subsequent places.
The Götschen ski centre is the venue for this spectacle and is situated between Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden. The 800 m ski slope is specially prepared and can be seen by spectators along its entire length. Admission is free and there will be plenty of action. The starting shot for the qualifiers will go off at 6.50 pm by floodlight. As Kirssi puts in : "The atmosphere of a snow race on a floodlit ski slope with crowds of spectators will be really unique - certainly new and exciting for me."

The grand finale of the "Snow Speedhill King" spectacular will be at 11.15 pm: once the winner is known there will be a big closing party including light show and music.
