FORMULA BMW WORLD CASTS ITS SPELL ON THE DRIVERS

Munich. The premiere of the Formula BMW World Final is fast approaching. From 13th to 16th December, the best drivers of the four international Formula BMW series will be measuring up against each other at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). Around the world, drivers are currently talking to their teams with a view to signing up for this highly attractive season final. "I'm definitely going to be there," says Sébastien Buemi of Switzerland, who leads the Formula BMW ADAC Championship before the season's final rounds in Hockenheim (22nd/23rd October). 60 000 US-Dollars worth of prize money will be distributed at the event, and the winner will be granted a Formula One test drive with the BMW managed team.
All drivers participating in any of the four Formula BMW series this year are eligible to take part in the prestigious event. Drivers will race in a tournament format featuring several qualifying rounds before the World Final race takes place on Friday, 16th December.

"Since we were kids, each one of us has been dreaming of one day racing in Formula One. If I can round up some more sponsorship funds, I definitely want to compete in Bahrain," says 18-year-old Tim Sandtler of Bochum, Germany. One person who knows all about the career benefits of a Formula One test drive is Nico Rosberg. The 2002 Formula BMW ADAC Champion and current test driver for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team is beating the drum as ambassador for the World Final: "A Formula One test will take you a long way further towards your key goal. This experience will make you work far harder at your career than before!"

16-year-old Tobias Hegewald already boasts international Formula BMW experience, having competed in four rounds of the Formula BMW USA Championship. He will also be on the grid in Bahrain. "The event has a lot of appeal for my international sponsors. I want to present myself as a driver before an expert public," comments the youngster from Waldbreitbach/GER).

The teams are also focusing on the World Final with heightened anticipation. Team manager Günther Unterreitmeier of 4speed Media is already looking forward to his involvement in Bahrain: "For us the World Final is the highlight of the year. We are fielding two cars in Bahrain. As a team, we're taking the opportunity to do a little bit of self-advertising." BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen regards the newly created event as an interesting forum for the drivers and the teams: "The Formula BMW World Final is the highlight of the 2005 Formula BMW season. With this World Final we are corroborating our claim to offer the leading entry-level class for international Formula racing in 2005. The event provides an attractive stage for the teams and sponsors, but above all for the drivers: even more than the prize money of 60,000 US dollars, it's the opportunity for the winner to take a Formula One test drive that is the real draw."
