BMW Team PTG - Notes and Quotes from CompUSA 200 at The Glen Watkins Glen International Qualifying - Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005
BMW Team PTG M3s Will Start 1st, 2nd, 4th and 13th in CompUSA 200 at The Glen; Marks and Milner Score All-BMW M3 Front Row in GT Class. Image

Justin Marks, driving the No. 16 BMW Team PTG F1 Air M3, scored his second career Rolex Sports Car Series GT pole today as the BMW Team PTG M3s took three of the top-five GT class starting spots for tomorrow's CompUSA 200 at The Glen. His time of 1:15.637 minutes around the 2.45-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen International NASCAR "short" course was just .067 seconds faster than BMW Team PTG teammate Tom Milner in the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 (1:15.704). Marks' pole was the BMW Team PTG's fourth of the season and the third time the team has qualified one-two. Marks and co-driver Joey Hand will be racing for their third win in a row tomorrow.
Kelly Collins, driving the No. 17 BMW Team PTG F1 Air M3, qualified fourth (1:15.978). Chris Gleason, driving the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 was 13th (1:17.441).
This season, BMW Team PTG has scored five victories in the first eight races and has four drivers in the top-10 in Driver Points. With four wins to-date Hand stands tied in second. Marks is fourth, Tom Milner sixth and Bill Auberlen seventh.
The CompUSA 200 at The Glen is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. ET tomorrow and will be televised on Speed Channel at 10 p.m.
Background:
2005 marks the tenth season of competition for BMW M3s of BMW Team PTG and 30th anniversary of BMW of North America's motorsport programs. In nine seasons, BMW Team PTG has won a total of 51 races in both sprint and endurance racing series and 14 sports car racing championships. In 2004, BMW Team PTG swept the Rolex Sports Car Series GT class Manufacturer, Driver and Team Points championships, winning 10 of 12 races.
JUSTIN MARKS, DRIVER NO. 16 BMW TEAM PTG F1 AIR M3 (1st):
"We had to make a quick repair just before the session began. The crew fixed it just in the nick of time and were also able to get a great qualifying set-up on the No. 16 M3 as well. This short course seems to suit the M3 as well as the long track we ran on at the six-hour race earlier this year. We lose the twisty boot section that the M3 loves, but there is a rhythm to this course that the car finds very comfortable. The M3 feels like it has another win in it."
TOM MILNER, DRIVER NO. 21 BMW TEAM PTG M3 (2nd):
"We made a tire pressure change before the qualifying session and it definitely helped the tires come in faster. Bill (Auberlen) had been fast in practice today so I had a great deal of confidence in the car. I could get right up to speed and my second lap was my quick one. One - two is a great start for BMW."
KELLY COLLINS, DRIVER NO. 17 BMW TEAM PTG F1 AIR M3 (4th):
"I caught a slower competitor on my quick lap. It probably wasn't going to be the pole, but I think we could have had three PTG M3s at the front."
