Replacing the A/C hose - Compressor to Condenser Print E-mail

First off - you should only be changing this hose if your a/c system is completely empty of R12 or R134a.
This article applies to a 1986 BMW e30 325es, my mom's car.  (mine hasn't broken yet on my 90 e30 325i...and I haven't looked, so chances are that the parts are pretty much the same...? don't quote me)
a/c compressor to condenser hose Part Number is: 1 377 855
 
This install is pretty easy to do, and replacement only takes less than 30 minutes.
You will need a 7/8inch Open End wrench, 3/4inch Open End Wrench and a 10mm socket, as well as a screwdriver.
 
First thing to do is pop the hood open, and remove the passenger side grill and kidney grill.
Once this is open, you will see this:
You will take the 3/4 open end wrench, and hold the top nut tight, and take your 7/8 open end wrench and pull toward you - from the condenser, outward, clockwise.  It will break free in a 1/2 turn.  Once this is off, make sure that you recover a small rubber o-ring that is exactly where these 2 hoses meet, and put that o-ring on the new hose (unless yours came with a set of o-rings, that goes without saying...)
 
Alright - Next, you're under the hood now - this is pretty easy here - take the 7/8 open end wrench, and break loose the left side nut, pictured below:
This also comes off pretty easy - once removed, make damn sure that you recover the o-ring that is possibly connected to the compressor still (usually if you have used a stop leak solution, it will seal  any leaks, generally - seals, like here, if the o-ring will not come off, do not force it, and just get it in position for the new hose if it looks good).
 
Next is to get the 10mm socket, and remove the small hold down clamp in the middle of this hose, connected to the body - if you break this, it's no big deal, I had to lay down the law with this one, because it is nearly 20 years old, and it wasn't coming off easy.  I did not use this part again for the new hose, I disregarded it.
 
Now, get the hose out, and install the new one fishing it through the grill area first, from inside the engine bay, and then you will attatch the hose at the condenser side first.
 
Same procedure as removing, but opposite (goes without saying).  Make sure again that the o-ring is in place on the new hose, then install the hose part into the condenser, making sure the o-ring gets a good seal, then, hand tighten the 7/8 nut onto the 3/4 section - then, use the 3/4 open end to hold tight while you tighten the 7/8 down - turning the 7/8 counter-clockwise, and get it tight.
 
Back under the hood - Same procedure as removal - make sure the o-ring is in place, and feed the hose tightly into the compressor, this will take a magic touch to get it in, snug - then, hand tighten the 7/8 until you can get the 7/8 open end wrench in there to tighten this nut - get it tight.
 
You're done.  20 to 30 minutes max.
 
You'll need to do an a/c recharge now - the part I hate, so I wont go there - sorry.
