Chicago, IL (March 15, 2005) –After a strong qualifying session on Saturday, Anchor Racing had a disappointing end to the Miller Grand-Am Cup 200 in Santo Domingo. Qualifying third in his No. 99 Anchor Racing/UnderArmour/BMW M3, Anders Hainer raced hard against his thirty-five competitors on Sunday’s endurance race. Following his stint, Hainer turned the car over to teammate Boris Said, who battled for the lead. During the second hour, a power failure caused a 1 ¾ hour full course caution period. The race resumed with one-hour remaining, but the Caribbean heat and humidity took a toll on many drivers and racecars. Following the caution period, Said experienced electrical problems in the No. 99 and was forced to retire the car.
The No. 93 Anchor Racing/Hyper Sport Engineering/BMW M3 driven by Joe Foster and Rick Skelton started fourth and had an exciting race on the tight, 1.6 mile track. Skelton took the checkered flag in fifteenth position. “We had a good qualifying session in the No. 93,” reported Foster. “The first half of the race was good. At times, it was very dangerous because the track had low grip. But the fans were great and we were well received by the locals. Looking forward to Fontana!” Bad luck also struck the No. 92 Anchor Racing BMW M3, which experienced overheating problems during the first hour of the race. “The conditions today were extreme,” explained team owner, John Munson. “Many of the problems that we experienced today were unavoidable. The cars were very fast and competitive this weekend. We are making great strides in the development of our cars and we look forward to a podium finish at the California Speedway.” Round three of the Grand Am Cup race will be held at the California Speedway on April 1-2. Anchor Racing is dedicated to winning the Grand Am Cup Championship in both the GS and ST classes. The silver BMW M3s will be sporting their official team sponsors: Anchor Group, Hyper-Sport Engineering ( www.hyper-sport.net), Under Armour, Anchor Mortgage Corporation.SM For more information on Anchor Racing, visit www.ANCHORRACING.com.
