Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (March 12, 2005) – Anders Hainer was the fastest of the three Anchor Racing drivers in today’s qualifying for the Miller Grand-Am Cup 200 at Las Americas Autodromo in Santo Domingo.  With a field of 35 Grand-Am Cup GS racecars, Hainer qualified an impressive third in the No. 99 Anchor Racing/UnderArmour/BMW M3 with a lap time of 1:23.746 (71.144 mph).  "On a bigger track like Daytona, you have some time to take a little breather for 30 seconds on each lap, but here we will be hard at it all the time,” reported Hainer.  “I am just going to try to keep it clean, hand it over to Boris and let him finish the job. He is a great driver, and we have a good shot at winning." 

Legendary driver, Boris Said, is also looking forward to competing in the 1.6 mile track. “Anders did a great job of qualifying today,” said Boris.  “The track is very tight, but should be a lot of fun.  I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”    Hainer’s qualifying time was only 0.204 seconds shy of pole sitter, Justin Marks, in his Turner Motorsport BMW M3. 

Joe Foster was the fourth quickest in the No. 93 Anchor Racing/Hyper Sport Engineering/BMW M3 with a lap time of 1:23.881 (71.029 mph).  Foster will be sharing the cockpit with Rick Skelton.  The No. 92 Anchor Racing BMW M3 driven by team owner, John Munson, qualified twenty-fifth.   “The field was tight and I got hung up in traffic,” Munson explained.  “The car has been running fast during Friday and Saturday's practice sessions.  The No. 92 is strong and ready for Sunday’s race.”

 

Anchor Racing and their fellow competitors will be making history this weekend as this will be the first time the Grand-Am Cup series competes outside of North America.       “We feel that we have made great strides since Daytona,” said Munson.  “We are a new team with a talented driver lineup and an amazing crew.  The pieces of the puzzle are falling into place.
