Daytona Beach, FL (2/3/2005) – Despite a tough practice and qualifying day at Daytona International Speedway, Anchor Racing is ready to shine for Friday’s three hour Grand-Am Cup Race. During Thursday’s morning practice, the No. 92 Anchor Racing/ BMW M3 driven by James Sofronas was hit by the No. 60 Finlay Motorsports/BMW M3 in turn one. “The No. 92 was struck on the driver’s rear side, causing considerable damage,” reported Munson, team owner and co-driver. “There just wasn’t enough time for the crew to repair the car prior to qualifying. But, thanks to a talented crew, the M3 should be in top form for tomorrow’s race.”
The No. 99 Anchor Racing/UnderArmour/BMW M3 did not fair much better during Thursday afternoon’s practice. Top driver, Boris Said, experienced motor problems in the newly built car. “The motor has logged only one hour of track time,” explained Munson. “The team is working effortlessly to resolve the problem before Friday’s morning practice.” Said will be sharing the cockpit with Anders Hainer. The dynamic duo competed in a partial season last year in the Grand-Am Cup with a first place finish at Homestead Miami and two Grand-Am Cup pole positions.
Co-piloting the third BMW M3 is Rick Skeleton and Joe foster. The No. 93 Anchor Racing/Hyper Sport Engineering/BMW M3 was running in top form today. The fifteen-minute qualifying session was black flagged shortly after the start, due to an accident. The shortened qualifying session allowed Skeleton enough time for only one lap, at 2:24.159.
Anchor Racing looks forward to Friday’s race with hopes of a podium finish. “I personally like starting from the back,” reported Munson. “It’s a greater feat to get to the front.” The endurance race will begin Friday at 2:15pm with over forty GS class cars. The silver BMW M3s will be sporting their official team sponsors: Anchor Mortgage, Anchor Group, Anchor Development, Hyper Sport Engineering, UnderArmour.
