Woodcliff Lake, N.J. (Jan. 17, 2005) -- Rolex Sports Car Series GT Champion Bill Auberlen accepted his First Team All-America award at Saturday’s 2004 American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) banquet in Pomona, Calif. Nearly 300 members of the AARWBA vote to determine the winners. The organization has annually chosen its All-America teams since 1970. Nominated in the At Large category, Auberlen had a record-setting year in the Rolex Sports Car Series, as he became the first driver in series history to earn six consecutive class victories. Driving the No. 21 BMW Team PTG BMW M3, Auberlen had a total of eight GT class victories on his way to the 2004 GT Driver championship. He also repeated as SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge Touring Car Driver Champion in his Turner Motorsport BMW 325i. This was Auberlen’s third All America nomination and his first time as a member of the First Team. “I am honored to receive this award,” said Auberlen. “I only wish they could make one for each member of the teams that got me to this point. Without the support of BMW of North America, BMW Team PTG and Turner Motorsport I would not be here. Like I have said all year long, this was the season to write a book about. So many records were made. Every time I left a race track I think my smile was bigger and bigger. I am proud to be a part of such great efforts. The six consecutive Rolex wins and eight total in the season is really a testament to the team. The combination of BMW Team PTG and the speed and reliability of the BMW M3 proved to be an unbeatable package. From a driver’s point of view, that is the seat you want to sit in.” BMW Team PTG won the GT class in 10 of 12 Rolex Series races in 2004, winning the GT Manufacturer and Team Championships as well. Auberlen has been the top-finishing BMW Team PTG driver in each of his six seasons behind the wheel of a BMW Team PTG M3, scoring 24 victories, 20 poles and 37 podium finishes since 1996. Both Auberlen and BMW Team PTG will return to the 14-race 2005 Rolex Sports Car Series season that begins on Feb. 5-6 with the 43rd annual Rolex 24 at Daytona.
