Winchester, VA - Sept. 15, 2004... BMW Team PTG will return to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the September 19th Miami 250, confident in their chances of adding to their seven-race win streak. Since leaving Homestead-Miami in February with a 1-2 BMW M3 GT-class victory in Round 2, they have been unbeatable in Rolex Sports Car Series competition, winning at Phoenix, Mont-Tremblant, Daytona and Mid-Ohio and twice at Watkins Glen.
BMW stands atop all GT-class championships, Manufacturers Points, Team Points and Drivers Points. Bill Auberlen leads the Driver's Points (253). Boris Said is just four points back in second (249), Justin Marks is fourth (220) and Joey Hand eighth (192).
Due to recent hurricane activity the Miami 250 was postponed from its original September 10-12 weekend and shortened to a two-day event. Practice will be held on Saturday. Qualifying positions will be set by Team points so the class-leading No. 21 M3 of Auberlen and Marks will start from the class pole. The No. 22 M3 of Said and Hand will start fourth. The 250-mile race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. ET on Sunday and will be held to a two-hour and 45-minute time limit. Speed Channel will televise the race live.
All BMW Team PTG drivers have contributed to this season's win record. The Auberlen/Said combination racked up four wins-in-a row, before Auberlen was partnered with Marks and Said with Hand. Auberlen continued to win the next two races with Marks. Said and Hand were the most recent winners at Watkins Glen.
Before Round 2 this February, BMW Team PTG has only visited the Homestead-Miami Speedway road course once before in 1998. Competing in the United States Road Racing Championship BMW Team PTG drivers Marc Duez and Ross Bentley finished only two car lengths ahead of teammates Boris Said and Mark Simo for a 1-2 BMW M3 GT3 class finish.
Most recent race winner Boris Said summed up the season to date, "Our real strength lies in that we have the most experienced team with the most developed car. In everything, there is always one team that is better than the rest and right now that is PTG."Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
