Winchester, Va. (May 19, 2004) – BMW Team PTG travels to Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 21-23 in search of its third Rolex Sports Car Series GT win in a row at the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant.
BMW Team PTG will have to overcome more than a language difference if they are to capture that third victory. This will be the team’s first visit to the twisty 2.65-mile, 15-turn track north of the border so there will be no past data to rely on. Veteran drivers Bill Auberlen and Boris Said have competed at the track before, but it will be all new for the drivers of the No. 22 M3. Both Justin Marks and Joey Hand will be making their first starts at the track. Possibly the greatest challenge will be that the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant is the second longest race of the season to-date, requiring the greatest effort from the cars, crew and drivers since the season opener at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
After a disappointing retirement from that first race at Daytona, BMW Team PTG returned to Victory Lane at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in February with a 1-2 BMW M3 finish in Round Two. Bill Auberlen and Boris Said made it two wins in a row from the pole position for the No. 21 BMW M3 in April’s Round Three contest at Phoenix International Raceway.
BMW currently stands second in Manufacturer Standings. Boris Said is in third place in the Driver’s Standings and Bill Auberlen is just behind Boris in fourth. Justin Marks is ninth and Joey Hand is 16th.
“The competition is tough so to win three in a row would be quite an accomplishment,” said Tom Milner, owner of BMW Team PTG. “One of the rewards of winning is that is makes you work even harder to win the next race. BMW Team PTG likes to be on the top step of the podium so no one is letting up.”
“It will be my first 6-hour race ever and it should be interesting,” said Joey Hand. “I am looking forward to something a little bit longer than the 250-mile races that we have been running. Our guys have given Justin and me a great M3 all season and we hope to capitalize on that at Mont-Tremblant."
“I am eager to get a good result for the team and for BMW,” added Marks. “From what I have heard Mont-Tremblant is a fantastic racetrack, challenging and scenic. I have always enjoyed the longer races for the added challenges and I know that PTG will put together an effort that will allow Joey and myself to make a challenge for victory.”
