FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT
«
on:
Monday, July 23, 2007 - 04:18 PM »
I'm the new owner of an '89 735i, and she's taking a while to crank over. Can anyone give me some idea of what I'm going to need to do to replace the fuel pump?
Thanks,
-zz

usually, if the fuel pump is going bad, if you knock on it then try to start, it will work - that might not be the problem.
check these things before going to the fuel pump
distributor cap
spark plugs
oil level
air filter
fuel filter
coil pack
process of elimination will find the cause - mine for a fact was the fuel pump because I had to knock on it to make it work once - though the timing belt broke, but there was no fuel delivery.

check these before the fuel pump
distributor cap/rotor
spark plugs
spark plug wires
oil level
air filter
fuel filter
coil pack
crankshaft position sensor - it's near the big gear in the front of the engine - has a wire going to it, and a magnet, should be silver - if it's covered in grease, take some brake cleaner to it.

Thanks, I've done most of that already, and it all looks good. I have not found the fuel filter, yet, so I'm still in search, That'll defintiely be changed.
It'd be nice to have a manual. but I'm not paying $100 for one. Any direction on where I can find a reasonably priced one?
