08 Mazda3 & '06 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

« on: Sunday, November 05, 2006 - 07:58 PM »

The wagon is gone, it served us well for the last few months, but we needed a long term solution.  I was trying to get my wife back into cars, her last car was in the 80's, but it wasn't going to happen.  I got her hooked on SUV's long ago.  We wanted to be able to seat 6 or more people and get some reasonalbe gas mileage, 20ish around town and maybe 30ish on the road.  WE drove the Highlander Hybrid yesterday and it pretty much sold itself.  It is a remarkable truck.  We got one the very last '06's in the country and got 4.9 financing.  It is a light gold metallic with tan cloth interior, all wheel drive, sunroof, third row seating, rear seat entertainment, JBL stereo, probably the only main option missing is navigation.  If Linda ever lets me near it I'll get a picture to post.

Yes, this isn't quite the off road machine that the old Lnad Cruiser is, but I think it will be pretty capable.  It could probably ford that creek, but we'll probably never try it.  The all wheel drive is feature that will benefit us during the winter more than the monsoon season, which we don't have.  Most of our streams and rivers have bridges over them thanks to all the highway road tax we pay!!!

God bless America for bridges, and God bless Australia for no bridges Smiley

25.2 MPG for the first tank, not too bad.  Our first road trip will be this weekend when we go to Iowa for the holidays.
