Do you have a resonator on the mid-pipe now?  Without one they get loud.  Supersprint, Remus and Dinan are the only complete systems that I know of the 318.  But I can't attest to how loud they are.  I installed a Magnaflow muffler and it is fairly loud.

I have a remus exhaust and its nice a subtle. I do hear a lot of negative thoughts about them, but to be honest I have no problems with mine for the past 5 years or so.

remus is quite well-known for it's large sports exhausts (in holland at least), which are pretty big and pretty noisy as well.
I would still go for the original 318is exhaust, which is made for the 318is...

I've always liked an exhaust that's quiet under normal throttle, but cracks concrete under wide open throttle - not like these fag honda's with massive huge loud pipes...you know?

I've got a custom made 2.25" cat back exhaust done by the previous owner of my car which sounds really good but a bit loud at idle. I also have a Cosmo CAI which looks really cool but neither of these mods improved the power of the M42. I think it made it worse cuz I used to have another 318I which was stock and it ran better than the one I have now. The conforti chips for these cars promise significant increases across the board but they don't mention if its with a stock engine or one with an intake and exhaust. Any one have experience with these chips.

I have installed a Magnaflow muffler with a high flow cat and have debaffled the airbox, so my car is pretty free flowing.  After I installed my Dinan chip I can notice some areas of improved power and response.  My gas mileage improved also.  Dinan's publised gains do indicate that they are acheived with their exhaust, no CAI is offered.

Hey folks.  New to the forum!  In response to E36 LUVA, I have a Turner(Conforti) chip in my '95 318is and it is great.
I noticed the difference right away.  While the Dinan is impressive when the revs are way up there, the Conforti chip gives a noticeable increasel across the board.   It was well worth the money.

Also, ANSA makes a decent twin-outlet muffler priced reasonably (under $400 here in the States).  I've read that the stock 318is muffler (Bosal, I think) performs better than all of the after market exhausts, but it doesn't give the 'growl" I want.

do you have power all the way to redline, or does it fall off fast?  I want a chip, but I need to know that it is worth the $$$  (1990 325i)

My experience with the Dinan chip is that it really starts to kick-in when revs are approching 4500-5000 rpm's.  It's impressive there and above.  However, with normal, everyday driving, I could not tell the difference between the Dinan and stock.  The Turner chip gave the engine more oomph from low revs right on up.  The Dinan pulled more strongly near top end.  I guess that's why most track cars benefit from the Dinan.  Everyday driving is a different story, though.  I rarely, if ever get to red line so the Turner chip is my choice for most of us regular mortals.

Do any of these chips work with intake and exhaust mods or are they ment for stock engines. I need to know if the Turner chip would fix my driveabitity issue that occured after installing my intake and exhaust.

The Dinan chip is specifically desinged to work with freeflowing intake and exhaust.

The only problem with the Dinan stuff is that it has to be installed by a BMW dealer. I'm the only person who works on my car.
