Hello fellow M-42's. Have a 1992 original owne,r Bilstein Shocks, otherwise unmodified, calypso red, 172,000 mile lots of fun 318is. Like the lightness of the vehicle, nimble responsiveness . Look forward to reading about and sharing info on this Forum.
First question: Have you chipped your M-42? Which chip? Is it worthwhile to put chip in? What are the downsides to it?
I know this is probably an old question (it is for me) but am really interested in your opinions.
thanx

Welcome to the forum. We look forward to seeing some pictures.
I have not done the chip. I have been cheap about it and don't want to have to buy 91 octane.

Hi Guys BMW Newbie - Maybe I should be @ a different forum but here goes - Wife just got 1994 318i Vert- I'm the mechanic- so I'm surfin looking for help- Can you clarify - door plate says "318is" but it's a ragtop. I've seen a lot of references to 318iC & 318is & 318i. What's the difference? Does the 's' signify anything different than a 318i? Suspension? Engine? Thanks Cyrus

Welcome aboard. Here in the states the S usually means coupe or two door. On some earlier models the S could mean sport package. So a 318 convertible would be an S, since all convertibles are coupes. Generally over here the verts are referred to as C, so yours is 318ic. The convertibles generally have a stiffer rear spring to handle the extra weight, and the layout of the rear suspension might be slightly different. The front part of cars are not different. Get a Bently manual or Haynes repair manual and it will help you very much. Also use www.realoem.co m to help answer systems questions about your car.
