This weekend I attempted the DIY project of removing the gray side skirts from my car. I followed the instructions from the DIY Library. After about two hours of scrubbing and spraying all I had off was the section from the front wheel to the door edge, like eight inches. This is not supposed to be a 3 day job. I did some more searching and reading, some people get the stuff off in like 45 minutes and others take days. I think I may get a little more aggressive than the Castrol Super Clean and or try to paint over the stuff. I found in the warehouse today a VHT product that might cover the stuff and look OK. Since I'm working on black I have a little room for error to match the color.

give the product "Mother's" "back to black" a try - I use it on my bumper guards, works well.

The lower side skirts are a gray almost thick acrylic like paint. Will that stuff cover anything?

I didn't know it was paint - I'd give it a shot, if anything - you can use it on the bumper guards.

OK, they're black now! A little sanding with an orbital unit and some VHT Black Urethane Coating. I still have to wash the car to see how much contrast there is. I think the skirt area will be a little darker and some what flat or muted. Better than the gray stuff. I didn't try anything with the bumper area yet. That will need to be more OE looking, and the front of the car is so chipped up I really need to get the whole front repainted. I need some one to back into me in a parking lot and get their insurance to cover the job!
Tomorrow I might try some other little jobs that need attention. We got a new product at work called Hushmat. It is sound deadening material. I bought a starter kit which has four 1 square foot pieces. I will cut them and try them in some different areas to quiet things down. You stereo guys should get some if you have rattles from you trunk of doors.

Thanks. I have been pleasantly surprised that they are holding up. I did those in April and no flakes or chip offs yet. Not bad for a DIY rattlecan job. The mud flaps help to keep a lot of junk off of them also.
