erm,
my dad's car needs a new exhaust (the piece from the engine to the muffler).
Now he found a 325i exhaust, but he's wondering if this will fit.
Will it? or does he have to go for a 320i exhaust?
The muffler is already from an 325i, so fitting these 2 together shouldnt be the prob.

Cheerio!

The 320i is a 4 cyl, right?  I think the 325 uses a 6 into 2 into 1 series of junctions to get to the cat.  And I think that the 4 cyl uses a 4 into 1 step down.  I don't think it would be a clean swap.  I just got a new BMP Design catalog, but I took it to work.  They illustrate all the different systems.  I can check Monday, or maybe they post the pictures on their website, www.bmpdesign. com

Wow - I thought the 320 was an inline 4 only - 2.0 litre 4 banger - where as the 323 was an inline 6.  I'm not so sure that it will work because of the displacement of the engines, and the synchronizatio n of the exhaust manifold to the engine.

I think the 2.5 would be a bit wider -- this is just my best possible guess.

Maybe in US specs... but EURO is definately a 6cyl, and we almost dont have any 323 e30s here, I've seen em in australia and new-zealand, but dont know why there aren't a lot of them here....

Thought that too, but am not sure of it... I'll ask Peter, you ever seen him here again?

I found a catalog from Remus sport exhaust and they list some systems for Euro models.  They do  show some systems for the 320i and they show coverage for the same system on a 325i.  They certainly have different exhaust manifolds but they look very similar in design.  I think you have a better than 50/50 chance for the parts to match up.  Hope this helps.

I am all for saving money.  When you know what you are looking for there can be great buys in the secondary market.  Good luck.

Ilir,

I know this is a couple of hours too late Wink but the 320i and 325i have the same part number for the exhaust manifolds.

I use this site as a reference a lot these days:
