anybody ever come across the problem on an 86 e30 325es where the fan for the a/c works only on speed 4.  1,2,3 do nothing, it's just recent, just about 2 days ago that this started.

Can't say for BMW only, but most makes have a separate high speed fan relay.  So there should be a relay for low speeds or a fuse.

That is so funny, because I almost typed something like to bad we don't a chart or diagram of the fuses.  But, I didn't want to be too much of a smart a$$.

There is a resistor atached to the blower fan.  If I'm not mistaken you can reach it thru the wipers area inside the engine compartment.  They get corroded and sometimes just a clean up would do the trick.

Good luck

Yes, there is a resistor block plugged into the bottom of the blower. It is accessable from the engine compartment only. There is a panel on the firewall that has to be removed to gain access.

This link may be of some help:

In addition to this info, I found that often it is the contact fingers that become loose and a couple of raps with a hammer and center punch will tighten them right up.

Hope this helps Smiley
