a friend and I will be doing this tomorrow - on Saturday - at his shop.

Clint went around and got all of the info that we'll need to do this replacement - thanks for that help :)

I'll get pictures, and a write up of our own to post here when it's done.  I'll try to get the write up of the control arm replacement at the same time, maybe on Sunday.

     More than happy to hip in where I can. It is cool that we all come from different parts of the world, but I wish we all lived closer as well. How cool would it be for us to get together, work on our rides, and have a cookout sometime. Good luck with the project.

replacing the bearing shouldn't bring you that much trouble, man.

gonna get started on this project, yet again, tomorrow morning - i'm ready for my ass to be totally kicked.

well, I couldn't get the drive axle disconnected from the differential.. .
SO...

as I was laying on my back under the car, I looked up at the e-brake shoe - and it appeared a little off-center.

I straightened it up, and noticed that parts of the corner of the entire side were sort of...missing small chunks...

I picked up the rotor and looked inside where the e-brake shoes it, and noticed that there was some un-even wear in there.

so, I adjusted the e-brake shoes so that they sit more compressed, and reinstalled all parts.

took it for a ride, and the grinding was about 90% gone.

I think it's the e-brake pads / shoes kit that must be replaced - not the wheel bearing.

anybody know about that?

I would put my money onthe wheel bearing...the e-brake shoes shouldn't be off kilterunless the hub is running untrue. The wheel bearing s go on the E30; it's not a matter of if, but when...so if you've got over 100,000miles on the machine, anytime is when they will fail :-\

I've gotta come up with the time, and a trustworthy mech to do this for me - I'm done with trying to get the drive axle off of the differential.  I have plenty of tools to do a lot on the car, just not something like this, that requires a puller and other things.

do appreciate it - the car's sitting over 200k, just got the symptoms coming back from road atlanta in july or october of 2003.

I just bought an '89 325i and I believe the same noise, vibration is coming from the rear right wheel bearing.  I will be interested to know how you making out with your project.

didn't make out too good, I quit half way through, because I dont have a puller, and the drive axle is a tough bitch to remove from the differential.

I'm working on replacing the water pump now - worked for about 4 hours on it today, will finish it tomorrow...car's been down for a week.  This water pump deal is something I'm glad only happens once every 500 years...  replacing it with one that comes with a metal impeller - this one caused a leak in the weep hole last sunday, not sure why, and I thought it was only 3 or 4 years old.

I hope you're doing the timing belt while you're at the pump. Once the tensioner is released on older belts, the belts have a nasty habit of breaking :'(

How's the car doing?  I didn't hear from you so I figured you had already taken care of it.

I see you are having some trouble with the rear bearing.  The truth is you do not need a puller to replace it, but having lots of patience sure helps.

I did mine a year ago, it wasn't a piece of cake but it is certainly doable with not so fancy tools

Timing belt was replaced in 2000 - october - I checked it out while doing the water pump, and it looked to be in excellent condition still.

Fabian and I replaced the rear wheel bearing - he worked on it during the day, and I came over to help install the day after - there was no damage to the spindle or drive axle, and the bearing came out in one piece - install wasn't so hard, got installed and rolling in about 1 1/2 hours.

next is the valve spring adjustment - - I could use your help on #1 this weekend!  I can mirror the last 5.  give you a call friday.
