Title: M42 exhaust Post by: Biem on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 09:17 PM Hi,
i have this loud exhaust from 325 and would love to change for original 318 iS exhaust pipe. Which exhaust would you recommand? Thanks (http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/3497/01mi3.jpg) Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: DeanP on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 11:04 PM Do you have a resonator on the mid-pipe now? Without one they get loud. Supersprint, Remus and Dinan are the only complete systems that I know of the 318. But I can't attest to how loud they are. I installed a Magnaflow muffler and it is fairly loud.

Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: CJ7 on Friday, August 04, 2006 - 01:35 AM I have a remus exhaust and its nice a subtle. I do hear a lot of negative thoughts about them, but to be honest I have no problems with mine for the past 5 years or so.
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Ilir on Sunday, August 13, 2006 - 08:52 AM remus is quite well-known for it's large sports exhausts (in holland at least), which are pretty big and pretty noisy as well.
I would still go for the original 318is exhaust, which is made for the 318is... Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Biem on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 - 08:01 PM Right, i'm waiting for new original 1.8 iS exhaust, it should be quite silent.
Thanks Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Ilir on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 07:43 AM Great! hope you'll be satisfied with it and the performance as well ofcourse!
When is it coming? Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Biem on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 09:30 PM Hi, it should arrive tomorrow. I think i will get it done by the next week. I'll put some pics then.
Thanks Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Jeff Seabrook on Friday, August 18, 2006 - 01:36 AM I've always liked an exhaust that's quiet under normal throttle, but cracks concrete under wide open throttle - not like these fag honda's with massive huge loud pipes...you know?
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Biem on Friday, September 08, 2006 - 02:29 PM Forgot to post them earlier:

It's quiet and I'm very happy with it. Thanks Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: DeanP on Saturday, September 09, 2006 - 12:43 PM Good looking tip on there. Glad you like it.

Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: E36LUVA on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 02:52 PM I've got a custom made 2.25" cat back exhaust done by the previous owner of my car which sounds really good but a bit loud at idle. I also have a Cosmo CAI which looks really cool but neither of these mods improved the power of the M42. I think it made it worse cuz I used to have another 318I which was stock and it ran better than the one I have now. The conforti chips for these cars promise significant increases across the board but they don't mention if its with a stock engine or one with an intake and exhaust. Any one have experience with these chips.
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: DeanP on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 11:23 PM I have installed a Magnaflow muffler with a high flow cat and have debaffled the airbox, so my car is pretty free flowing. After I installed my Dinan chip I can notice some areas of improved power and response. My gas mileage improved also. Dinan's publised gains do indicate that they are acheived with their exhaust, no CAI is offered.

Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: cookie on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 06:52 PM Hey folks. New to the forum! In response to E36 LUVA, I have a Turner(Conforti) chip in my '95 318is and it is great.
I noticed the difference right away. While the Dinan is impressive when the revs are way up there, the Conforti chip gives a noticeable increasel across the board. It was well worth the money. Also, ANSA makes a decent twin-outlet muffler priced reasonably (under $400 here in the States). I've read that the stock 318is muffler (Bosal, I think) performs better than all of the after market exhausts, but it doesn't give the 'growl" I want. Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: kickass95318ti on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 08:42 PM i thought the dinan chip gave u performance across the board as well

I want a chip, but I need to know that it is worth the $$$ (1990 325i) Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: kickass95318ti on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 10:31 PM i never heard of this Conforti chip is it new?
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: DeanP on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 02:18 AM No, Jim Conforti has been around a long time.
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: cookie on Monday, November 13, 2006 - 03:39 PM My experience with the Dinan chip is that it really starts to kick-in when revs are approching 4500-5000 rpm's. It's impressive there and above. However, with normal, everyday driving, I could not tell the difference between the Dinan and stock. The Turner chip gave the engine more oomph from low revs right on up. The Dinan pulled more strongly near top end. I guess that's why most track cars benefit from the Dinan. Everyday driving is a different story, though. I rarely, if ever get to red line so the Turner chip is my choice for most of us regular mortals.
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: kickass95318ti on Sunday, November 19, 2006 - 10:15 PM you got your chip from turner motorsport?
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: kickass95318ti on Monday, November 20, 2006 - 01:26 AM i have a 95 ti and i was wondering will the turner chip fit on my car? and how can i get my ecu number?

Do any of these chips work with intake and exhaust mods or are they ment for stock engines. I need to know if the Turner chip would fix my driveabitity issue that occured after installing my intake and exhaust. Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: DeanP on Monday, November 20, 2006 - 12:10 PM The Dinan chip is specifically desinged to work with freeflowing intake and exhaust.
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: E36LUVA on Monday, November 20, 2006 - 02:24 PM The Dinan chip is specifically desinged to work with freeflowing intake and exhaust. The only problem with the Dinan stuff is that it has to be installed by a BMW dealer. I'm the only person who works on my car. Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: DeanP on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 - 08:42 PM Only if your car has the EWS security system. I installed my own chip, only to learn that my car had the EWS system and then had to take it to the dealer for install. Mid 1995 this system was added. If your car is older you can install the chip yourself.
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: kickass95318ti on Thursday, November 23, 2006 - 09:23 PM how can i find my ecu #? 95 ti
Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: Ilir on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 01:59 PM " The ECU is located just forward of the glove compartment but inside the engine compartment. On the firewall behind the passenger side shock tower in the engine compartment is foam rubber shielding. Remove that and the black plastic cover behind it. Slide out the ECU and copy down the Bosch part number (a ten digit number that starts with 0-261-200). For further assistance refer to this page: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/catalog/e36_ecu_removal.htm
thanks to someone over at bimmerforums :) Title: Re: M42 exhaust Post by: kickass95318ti on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 - 08:18 PM thanks Ilir!
