Title: '02 Taurus Wagon
Post by: DeanP on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 12:44 AM
I just can't stop my self.  Added Powerflow splash guards all around and PIAA wipers.  Have had the car for about 45 days so far and have been very happy.  We are getting 20 mpg around town and upper 20's on road trips.  The car is comfortable to drive and handles pretty good.  Recently the rear brakes are squeaky a little and the wife is complaining, so it looks like there may be some EBC greenstuff in it's future soon.  We are also going to get it tinted, that should make it look a little more sophisticated.

twin turbo, and a little carbon fiber body work in the future too?  :)

it's always good to buy a used car that has been well maintained - replacing brakes isn't much of a problem, but it's the cars that you have to start dumping money into right away that makes it difficult.  glad it's holding up, I know you all will take care of it...keep in mind the resale value too.

hahaha a true car guy, modding the family wagon... nice!

Thats the way I am, I get a new vehicle, usually within the first week I have done something to it to make it different from OEM (even if it is just wipers lol)

My wife is like the aftermarket anti-christ, she doesn't want anything that didn't come on it to begin with.  I don't think there will be any dramatic mods to the wagon, like suspension, wheels or exhaust.

Just throw a supercharger on it real covert like... and when she asks "why is it making that whining sound?" just tell her its a sqeaky belt and youll fix it...

lmao...

Today I put on some EBC Green Stuff pads front and rear.  The pads went on without much drama.  Ford designed the calipers to change the pads easily.  Unbolt one of the caliper bolts and just pivot it out of the way and swap the pads, swing it back put in bolt and go to the next one.  The rears are slightly harder because there is a cable e-brake lever that you have to disconnect, but not much harder.  Linda had been complaining of noise and I had heard some on occasion too.  So it made sense to pull the wheels and make sure nothing was amiss.  The pads on there were new, but I'll bet these EBCs are quieter.  Also got the windows tinted 35% all the way around.  My "mods" are probably done, PIAA wipers, EBC brake pads, Powerflow mudflaps and the window tint.  Less than $400 dollars for all that, not too bad.

It has a fold down third seat, so if there weren't too many big people you can put eight people in it.  Right now it is all about the gas mileage.

Your prom date's dad wouldn't let you use a machine like this for prom.  Tinted windows and fold down seats would lead to a ruined reputation.

They are much more quite than the OE new pads that were on there.  They probably dust about as much, and they stop great.  We are selling the heck out them at work.

you'd be totally sold on PBR organic brakes on the W and hawk HPS on the ford :)

We are selling Hawks at work also.  I have been tempted to switch, but I am so happy with my current brakes that I can't bring myself to change.

An update on teh EBC green pads.  I washed the car last week and cleaned the wheels.  The brake dust washed off very easy.  We drove the car 1500 miles over weekend to Minnesota and the wheels stayed clean.  The dust is from a break in coating that EBC puts on the brake pads.  After the first few hundred miles it is all gone and then the pads are very low dust.

I'm considering switching to the Axxis Blue pads- they are expensive as all hell - $120.00 for the fronts - recommended by a friend who tracks his e36 M3 at Sebring.

I'm not familiar with those.  I can get you a hook up on EBC or Hawks if you change your mind.

Oops - Pagid Blue - sorry - and I didn't know hawk made pads for my car?  Looked on their site, and didn't find anything that fits.

Padig I have heard of.  The Hawk catalog shows numbers for all E30 applications.
