Title: turbo or not?
Post by: shaggsm3 on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 05:59 PM
I want to build a small turbo kit for my stock m3 until i'm ready to track it. I was thinking a small t3 turbo with a stock header chopped to fit the turbo, small intercooler, blow-off valve and probaly keep the wastegate internal. I'm only wanting to run 7-8 psi because i dont want to do any other work to the engine. My question is, can the stock bottem ebd hold the boost since it is only 7-8 psi and what about the compression? Also could the stock computer deal with the added air?

I would hope the stock bottom end would hold up to only 7-8 lbs... But I don't know for sure. I know a stock 1.8L 8 valve VW motor is good for 12lbs... And I would hope that the M3 motor is stronger than that.

As for the computer, I don't know. It would be able to adjust fuel/timing up to a point but who lknows if it would be enough...

maybe someone else here will know better than me...

I don't know much about turbocharging, but I'd like it done to my e30.

I think you will need a chip, and maybe bigger injectors to pump more fuel into the chamber for combustion.  I will ask my friend Fabian who had an 88 M3 what he thinks.

You can make pretty big power out of that car in the top end, since it comes with 192hp from the factory.  Let me ask him, msg this post back when I get an answer.

and re-register!!!!, I mailed you already about the mistake I made, sorry!!!
