Title: F/S: E36 318i around $6K
Post by: DeanP on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - 11:26 PM
I have a lead on an upgrade car, but I would have sell mine first.  This would be a great second or back to school car for someone.  Or if you're some guy living in the mountains and don't want to drive a Jeep all the time.   Easy on gas and insurance.  The car is very dependable and runs good.  If you can't find any pictures or lists of modifactions you're not trying very hard.  It would probably need to be a local cash deal, as I would then go buy my replacement car.  I'd be more than happy to respond to any requests for additional info.

The previous deal listed above passed.  6k is a little strong for the car now too I realize.  However, I'm never opposed to getting another bimmer.  So if you're looking for a good starter car to learn BMW's with, this is the one.

OK, I've found another car locally for sale, but I should sell this first.  The car currently has 170000 miles on it.  No mechanical issues.  $4000

So close, yet so far.  I found a buyer and he had the $4k cash, I got a $3k loan to cover the difference.  I go down to the dealer to test drive the car and buy it.  The thing wouldn't run.  It was a '93 740i with 97000 miles on it, supposedly a one  owner.  Check engine lights started flashing, it wouldn't idle and didn't have enough power to roll off from a stop light.  The test drive lasted two blocks.

End of deal.  I still have my car, and we'll see if something else comes along.  Oh well.

how can a dealer expect to sell a car that doesn't even pass any mechanical inspections?  do they drive or even test the cars they buy?

My guess is that they got in over their head and can't get anything for it wholesale. Since those guys know all about Nikasil engines and it's possible problems.  So thy're stuck with it and are trying to patch it up enough to get it sold to someone who doesn't know better.  It is a Chyrsler dealership.  They probably got carried away looking at blue book value and screwed themselves.
