Title: Fun thoughts . . .
Post by: Elebaster on Saturday, March 05, 2005 - 03:05 AM
Well I've got this problem.  The thing is I just got my car paid off and now these pay checks just seem to be going nowhere (as in sitting on my dresser).  My remedy actually presents itself in the form of speed and suspension.  The problem is that I don't know where to start.  The car is a 1987 325e, so it has about 150ft/lbs of torque and 120bhp so obviously it needs power, but the suspension could use some fine tuning too.  Oh the torment.  Anyone with any particular e30 fascinations, please present obscure ideas.  I was acutually wondering about changing out the suspension with that of an e36, or building up the engine (swapping those weak 3-series valve springs for ones from a 528e), so any information as to those projects is appreciated.  Then again, I was also thinking about a nice brake set-up. . .

Any way, anyone with ideas, it looks like I'm setting up an entry level race vechile.  Thanks!

Very interesting.  I haven't heard of putting E36 front end parts under an E30.  I was thinking the E30 diehards thought it handled better than the E36 so why change.  What about a nice coil over system, or just adjustable shocks and springs.

Well I like the e30 suspension system, but I was looking for a decent upgrade.  I really was wondering if it would be better to try this obscure change, or just tune out the stock parts.  Its just so hard to decide. . . .

Obscure can be fun and interesting, but why beat yourself over the head reinventing the wheel.  The E30 suspension is pretty decent to start with and there are many time and track tested solutions.
