Gordon Murray designed the Brabham BT52 to race in the 1983 formula 1 world championship and Nelson Piquet drove this car to the world championship in that year. It was in this year that the FIA attempted to limit the amount of ground effect that cars could generate by introducing flat bottoms to the underside of the cars and introducing a minimum ride height for cars of six centimeters.
