Five questions, five answers: Interview with the BMW title aspirants. Munich, 10th November 2006. Three drivers from the BMW national teams competing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) hope to become the 2006 champion during the season finale, which is held in Macau on 19th November. Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK travels to the former Portuguese colony second in the championship, having 59 points under his belt. BMW Team Germany's Jörg Müller (GER) holds third place, being on equal points with the reigning champion. His sixth-placed team-mate, Dirk Müller (GER), has 53 points to his tally. Prior to the title decider at the "Guia Circuit", the three drivers talk about the exciting season and the showdown in Macau.
The season finale is drawing ever closer. How do you prepare for Macau?
Andy Priaulx: "I won't change anything in my preparation compared to last year. It worked out fine last year, I had an exceptional weekend. I will go there early and start working with the team. I feel extremely well-prepared."
Jörg Müller: "Before travelling to Macau, I spend some days diving in Thailand. This helps me a lot to relax and to get a clear mind. For me, diving for recreation is the best sport in the world. Therefore, I will arrive in Macau totally laid-back. I know that I'm strong there, and I'm determined to win the title for BMW."
Dirk Müller: "I approach the two rounds as I do it with every overseas event. I won't complete a special preparation programme. Obviously I'm continuing my personal fitness programme in order to be in top shape. It doesn't take me long to get used to the climate and the time difference. What will be far more important is to focus on the two races as early as possible."
Do you like the "Guia Circuit"?

2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Rounds 19 and 20 - 17th/19th November 2006 - Preview
Showdown in Macau: Three BMW drivers fight for the WTCC title.
Munich, 14th November 2006. This weekend, the FIA World Touring Car Championship stages its season finale at the "Guia Circuit" in Macau (CHN). Three drivers of the BMW national teams have the chance to win the drivers' title in rounds 19 and 20 of the series. Furthermore, BMW (221 points) is leading SEAT in the Manufacturers' Championship prior to the races at the former Portuguese colony by ten points.
An impressive total of nine drivers still can be the 2006 World Champion. Defending champion, Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK, is currently ranked second in the drivers' classification, having 59 points under his belt. For the season finale, the 32-year-old gets a team-mate: Jan Magnussen (DEN) will support BMW in the title fight at the wheel of the BMW 320si WTCC.
The two BMW Team Germany drivers, Jörg Müller (GER) and Dirk Müller (GER), are also hoping to emerge as the 2006 champion. Jörg Müller is on equal points with Priaulx and holds third position in the championship. Dirk Müller is set to leap to the front and make up the seven-point gap to championship leader, Augusto Farfus (BRA). BMW Team Italy-Spain's Alesandro Zanardi (ITA) and Duncan Huisman (NLD) also want to score a good result in Macau, thus aiding BMW to win the title.

Munich, 08th November 2006. The countdown for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) season finale is on. Prior to rounds 19 and 20 at Macau's (CHN) "Guia Circuit", nine drivers are still in the fight for the drivers' title. Three contenders are racing a BMW 320si WTCC: Reigning champion Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK as well as both BMW Team Germany drivers, Jörg Müller (GER) and Dirk Müller (GER). In addition, BMW holds the lead in the Manufacturers' Championship and is set to defend the title in the former Portuguese colony. In this interview, BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, talks about the showdown in the Far East and reviews the exciting season. Mr Theissen, as it was the case in 2005, the WTCC title fight will be decided in Macau. Is this a worthy venue for the finale? Mario Theissen: "Yes for sure. I was on site last year, when Andy Priaulx clinched the drivers' title and we won the Manufacturers' Championship. It was a unique atmosphere, and I was deeply impressed. The circuit poses an inimitable challenge for the drivers in the final event of the season. The Guia Circuit is evocative of the narrow streets of Monaco. Street circuits of that kind deserve their reputation of being extremely demanding."
Does it come as a surprise to you that any one of nine drivers can still be champion? Theissen: "I assess this situation with mixed emotions. On the one hand, it's great that we still have three strings to our bow. Combined with the fact that we are leading the manufacturers' classification, this proves the competitiveness of the BMW 320si in its very first season. From the manufacturer's angle, however, we have to keep a critical view of the close field of competitors which has been brought about by individual handicaps and compromises."
For the fans there just cannot be enough excitement… Theissen: "That's true. I'm also happy we didn't have an early title decider. We have seen 11 different race winners this season, representing four manufacturers. As far as excitement among the drivers is concerned, it couldn't get any better. However, the WTCC is not only about the drivers, but we fought for the manufacturers' title as well. Such a title only makes sense, if the best car is in the front at the end of the year. The title loses its significance and an ambitious manufacturer loses its interest, if the cars' performance is levelled via the regulations."

2006 DELL Formula BMW World Final. Munich, 27 October, 2006. For Marco Holzer (Bobingen/GER) a dream is about to come true. On 23rd November the 18-year-old will be taking the BMW Sauber F1.06 out on a test drive at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. Holzer has been granted the day's testing in motorsport's top echelon for winning the 2005 Formula BMW World Final in Bahrain. This is where the world's best drivers in the four international Formula BMW series pit their skills against one another. The young man from Bobingen in Bavaria came out on top against 34 competitors on the Bahrain International Circuit. "This Formula One test is the greatest thing that could happen to me. Now it's a question of preparing myself for the huge forces that come into play in a Formula One car," says Holzer.
BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: "Marco Holzer has furnished plenty of proof of his potential in Formula BMW Germany. He has earned this test drive with his convincing victory in the 2005 Formula BMW World Final in Bahrain. For Marco this test is an opportunity to familiarise himself with the incredible dynamics of a Formula One vehicle."
One person who knows how a Formula One test can boost your career prospects is Formula BMW graduate Sebastian Vettel: "A test in a Formula One car shows a young driver the potential road ahead. The first fast lap is an experience you will never forget," declares the BMW Sauber F1 Team's Friday driver.
After Nico Rosberg (GER), Ho-Pin Tung (CHN) and Sebastian Vettel (GER), Marco Holzer will be the fourth Formula BMW graduate to test a BMW Formula One car.
At the 2006 DELL Formula BMW World Final, which will take place from 24th to 26th November at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, the young talents from the Formula BMW series in Asia, Britain, North America and Germany will again be vying for prize money totalling 60,000 US dollars as well as a main prize that money can't buy: this year once again the winner's reward will be a Formula One test drive with the BMW Sauber F1 Team.
Formula BMW is the world's leading entry-level class for Formula racing. In 2006 the series is being held in Germany, Britain, Asia and North America. It gives aspiring drivers as young as 15 a chance to embark on motor racing with the state-of-the-art standard FB02 car.

Monterey, Calif. - October 21, 2006... Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand, driving the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3, finished eighth in today's American Le Mans Series Monterey Sports Car Championships. The duo completed 139 laps of the 2.238-mile Laguna Seca circuit in the four hour race, finishing 10 laps behind the winning Ferrari. Running as high as fourth in the closing stages, Auberlen and Hand had to settle for an eighth place finish after mechanical problems forced them to take the checkered flag in the pit lane. The No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 of Justin Marks and Bryan Sellers was forced to retire following a collision on lap 80. Auberlen started the No. 21 M3 from the seventh position, but on the second lap found himself in the gravel after being hit by a competitor. Luckily the race's first caution period came only a lap later and he was able to catch up with the field and not lose a lap. After the green flag waved on lap 6 Auberlen regained the seventh place and Sellers, in the No. 22 M3, followed in eighth. The second caution period of the race proved not to be so fortuitous as both Auberlen and Sellers, passed by the overall race leader just before the yellow flag waved, lost a lap as the rest of the field was allowed to gain an extra lap.
At the one hour mark Auberlen was sixth. One half-hour later he pitted and Hand took over and moved the No. 21 M3 into fifth as the race moved past the half-way point. Sellers, in eighth, came to the pits with a suspected flat tire. One lap later it was determined that the problem was a broken right front suspension. The crew made quick repairs in the garage and, with Marks now behind the wheel, the No. 22 M3 rejoined the race, losing only 10 laps.
Hand took advantage of the race's third caution period to pit for fuel and tires and moved the No. 21 M3 into fourth. On the restart the No. 22 M3 was hit and the resulting damage to right front corner of the car forced the team to retire after completing only 80 laps.
As the fourth caution of the race continued the team called Hand to the pits on lap 95 for just enough fuel to finish the race. The gamble never got a chance to pay off as miscommunication with IMSA officials saw Hand stop while the pits were closed. The resulting cost was a one minute and 15 second penalty and no hope of a podium finish.
Hand soldiered on in sixth until a misfire forced him to the pits on lap 139. Time ran out as the crew affected repairs and the No. 21 M3 finished the race in pit lane, falling to an eighth place finish.
The Monterey Sports Car Championships ends the most successful chapter so far of the BMW of North America racing story. 2006 marks the 11th and final season of competition for the BMW Team PTG M3s. In 12 years, BMW Team PTG won a total of 53 of 118 races entered, bringing BMW 14 sports car racing championships.

Brazilian Grand Prix - Race, Sunday - 22.10.06 Weather: dry and sunny, 23-25°C Air, 34-46°C Track
Interlagos (BRA). The BMW Sauber F1 Team is celebrating taking fifth place in the constructors' world championship after the final race of the team's first season in Sao Paulo. However, neither driver was able to add to the overall points tally with Robert Kubica finishing ninth and Nick Heidfeld crashing into the barriers with six laps to go.
BMW has achieved many successes together with Michelin - in sports cars, touring cars, talent support programmes and in Formula One. BMW wants to thank Michelin for the successful partnership in F1 and looks forward to continuing together in other projects.
Robert Kubica: 9th BMW Sauber F1.06-09/BMW P86 Race Fastest Lap: 1.14:117s on lap 25 - 14th quickest The race started okay and I overtook Nick on the first lap, but after ten laps we didn't have any more speed. I was driving as hard as I could and pushing but we were just too slow. This was our last race working with Michelin and I would like to thank everyone in the tyre company for their hard work and also to say grazie to Piero, my tyre technician.

Munich, 13th October 2006. The BMW national teams enter the season finale of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in Macau with six cars. Jan Magnussen (DEN) will take to the track at the wheel of another BMW 320si WTCC on 19th November and enforce the regular driver quintet at the "Guia Circuit". The 33-year-old is scheduled to be the team-mate of reigning Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx (GBR) in the BMW Team UK, which is headed by Team Principal Bart Mampaey (BEL). "I'm really happy to be a part of the season highlight of the World Touring Car Championship with BMW," says Magnussen. "This series is amazingly exciting and the field could hardly be any closer together. I hope to be able to do my share in BMW's mission to defend both titles. Of course, it's also great to return to this challenging race track."
Prior to the WTCC's rounds 19 and 20, three drivers still have the chance to secure the title. Priaulx is currently ranked second in the drivers' classification having 59 points under his belt. He is trailing Alfa Romeo's Augusto Farfus (BRA) by a single point. Thanks to his victory in Valencia last weekend, Jörg Müller (GER) is also among the top title contenders. The 37-year-old is on equal points with Priaulx, holding third place. His team-mate Dirk Müller (GER) has 53 points to his tally and is the third string to BMW's bow in the WTCC title fight. Among the manufacturers, BMW (221 points) holds a 10-point lead over SEAT before the nail-biting showdown in Macau.
Like the two BMW Team Italy-Spain drivers, Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) and Duncan Huisman (NLD), it's Magnussen's goal to support the three title aspirants and to score valuable championship points for the Manufacturers' Championship at the 6.117-kilometre street circuit. He knows Macau from the early days of his successful racing career: 1994 he contested the legendary Formula 3 Grand Prix, crossing the line in third position.

Japanese Grand Prix - Race, Sunday - 08.10.06 Weather: dry, sun and clouds, 23-25°C Air, 21-28°C Track
Suzuka (JPN). Nick Heidfeld scored another championship point in the Japanese Grand Prix. He finished eighth in Suzuka, just fractions of a second ahead of his team mate, Robert Kubica. Now the BMW Sauber F1 Team goes to the season's finale in Brazil in two weeks time fifth in the constructors' world championship. The advantage over Toyota is just one point.
Nick Heidfeld: 8th BMW Sauber F1.06-04/BMW P86 Race Fastest Lap: 1.34.525s on lap 31 - 13th quickest My race was good and relatively unspectacular. At the start I gained one position and moved to eighth. The car was good, but I had trouble with the tyres. In all three stints I had graining on both the front and rear tyres. I have been on the softer compound, which was certainly the worse choice for the race. However, the decision had not been easy as, due to the weather conditions on Friday, we were not able to compare the compounds on long runs.
Robert Kubica: 9th BMW Sauber F1.06-09/BMW P86 Race Fastest Lap: 1.33:509s on lap 39 - 6th quickest It was a good race and I was happy with my pace. But from the beginning I struggled with grip, as I already had an oversteering car from yesterday. I also made a mistake, which lost me about ten seconds, because following cars here in Suzuka is not easy, especially in the quick corners. I perhaps risked too much, but I was able to come back and at the end finish very close to Nick.
Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): Today's race result was not a surprise after yesterday's qualifying. In view of our grid positions we only could expect to just make it into the points. Nick managed this and scored an important point, which has allowed us to defend fifth position in the constructors' championship. Today we have not been as quick as in the recent races, but it was another weekend without technical problems.
Willy Rampf (Technical Director): After yesterday's qualifying and, considering the performance all weekend of the Bridgestone teams, we couldn't expect a better result. At least we scored a point, but have not been as strong as in the last races. The positive thing is we approach the season's finale in Brazil fifth in the championship after a trouble free weekend here.
Test in Jerez: 11/12 October Robert Kubica - 13 October Nick Heidfeld

2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Rounds 17 and 18 - 07th/08th October 2006 - Race BMW celebrates triple victory in Valencia - Title fight closer than ever.
Valencia (Spain), 08th October 2006. BMW Team Germany's Jörg Müller (GER) claimed victory in the 18th round of the FIA World Touring Car championship. While the 37-year-old secured his third win of the season, BMW Team Italy-Spain driver Duncan Huisman (NLD) and BMW privateer Luca Rangoni (ITA) made for a clean-sweep on the podium by crossing the line in second and third places respectively. In race one, Rangoni delivered a remarkable performance at the wheel of his of Proteam Motorsport BMW 320si WTCC, finishing second, behind winning Alfa Romeo driver Augusto Farfus (BRA).
Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK retired in round one, but fought his way up to eighth place in the second race. The Guernsey-born driver now has 59 points under his belt and holds second place in the Drivers' Championship, one point behind Farfus, the new leader. Thanks to his victory, Jörg Müller jumped to third place in the rankings, having equal points with Priaulx. Meanwhile, his team-mate, Dirk Müller (GER), scored two points in Valencia. With 53 points to his tally, he is among the nine drivers who still have the chance to secure the title. In the Manufacturers' Championship, BMW (221 points) has regained the lead from SEAT, and leads this classification by ten points, with two more WTCC rounds to be contested.
Race one was over for Priaulx right at the start. Entering turn 1 of the "Circuit de la Comunitat", the reigning Touring Car World Champion collided with SEAT's Gabriele Tarquini (ITA), went off and re-entered the track backwards. He subsequently hit Chevrolet driver Robert Huff (GBR) and damaged his car. Both drivers were forced to retire. Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) of BMW Team Italy-Spain also suffered bad luck. Following a fight with a rival driver, the 39-year-old went off into the gravel and rejoined at the back of the field.
