  • BMW drivers Priaulx and Farfus claim podium finishes in Puebla.
BMW looks back on its most successful FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) weekend to date on Mexican soil: At the “Autódromo Miguel E. Abed” in Puebla (MX), BMW Team Germany’s Augusto Farfus took second in the third race of the season, after claiming pole position on Saturday. While SEAT driver Rickard Rydell (SE) won, Andy Priaulx (GB) of BMW Team UK finished third, celebrating his maiden podium finish of the season – and his first in Puebla. In race two, it was Priaulx who finished second behind SEAT’s Yvan Muller (FR), while Farfus came fourth. The two BMW Team Italy-Spain drivers, Sergio Hernández (ES) and Alessandro Zanardi (IT), managed to score points in race two by finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Farfus’ team-mate Jörg Müller (DE), who collected four points in the first race, rounded off the strong overall result. In the Drivers’ Championship, Farfus has now 20 points under his belt, thus improvin...

  • Farfus claims pole position for BMW in Puebla – Priaulx comes second.
Thanks to an excellent team result, BMW successfully fought back after a difficult start to the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship. At the “Autódromo Miguel E. Abed” in Puebla (MX), BMW Team Germany’s Augusto Farfus (BR) set a best time of 1:37.682 minutes in the second part of qualifying, and secured pole position for the third race of the season. BMW Team UK driver Andy Priaulx (GB) was just 0.045 seconds slower than his fellow BMW driver, claiming second and making it an all BMW front row in Puebla.   Five BMW drivers made it into the top-ten at the 3.240-kilometre track. Farfus’ team-mate, Jörg Müller (DE) came seventh. BMW privateer Félix Porteiro (ES) finished eighth for Proteam Motorsport. BMW Team Italy-Spain’s Sergio Hernández (ES) managed to make it into “Q2” for the first time this year, finishing tenth, while only his team-mate, Alessandro Zanardi (IT)l failed to make the cut and had to mak...

  • BMW continues WTCC campaign on difficult territory.
Even at the start of the season, there is no let up in the FIA World Touring Car Championship: Just a fortnight after the first two races in Curitiba (BR), this weekend sees the second WTCC event of the year at Puebla (MX). Due to its many slow corners, the “Autódromo Miguel E. Abed” traditionally favours BMW’s competitors with front-wheel drive. Added to this, naturally-aspirated petrol engines suffer a greater loss of performance at an altitude of 2,200 metres than turbo diesel engines, which are used by the SEAT team.   After BMW’s disappointing races in Brazil, fifth-placed Augusto Farfus (BR), from BMW Team Germany, is the BMW national teams’ highest-ranked driver with seven points in the overall standings. Team-mate Jörg Müller (DE) lies in sixth, thanks to an impressive charge through the field in the rain-drenched second race at Curitiba. BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB) and Sergio Hernández (ES) from BMW Team It...

  • Farfus most successful BMW driver in Brazil - Müller launches fight back.
On the opening weekend of the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), BMW Team Germany’s Augusto Farfus (BR) was the most successful member of the BMW national teams. In the first race of the season the 25-year-old finished fifth in front of his home crowd in Curitiba (BR). In race two, he added sixth place to his tally on a wet track. His team-mate, Jörg Müller (DE), was the man of the second round, in which the 39-year-old drove his BMW 320si WTCC from 21st on the grid to finish fifth.   Sergio Hernández (ES) of BMW Team Italy-Spain and BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB) also scored championship points in the first race by finishing sixth and seventh. However, SEAT dominated proceedings at the “Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba” and celebrated two clean sweeps by claiming the top four positions. The win in race one was secured by Yvan Muller (FR), Gabriele Tarquini (IT) claimed victory in race two.   Müller&rsq...

  • Müller fastest BMW driver in first WTCC qualifying of the season.
BMW Team Germany’s Jörg Müller (DE) claimed sixth place on the grid for the season opener of the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with a lap time of 1:24.637 minutes. The 39-year-old was the best-placed BMW national team driver in qualifying at the “Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba”, finishing 0.441 seconds behind pole-sitter Yvan Muller (FR, SEAT). His team-mate, Augusto Farfus (BR), was seventh, while BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB) claimed tenth on the grid for the first race on Sunday. Both BMW Team Italy-Spain drivers, Sergio Hernández (ES) and Alessandro Zanardi (IT), failed to get into the decisive top-ten shootout.   “Obviously we had hoped for a better start to the new season,” said Friedhelm Nohl, General Manager Engineering, Sports and Touring Cars. “By finishing sixth Jörg was our best-placed driver, less than half a second behind the man on pole. With Augusto and Andy we have two...

  • For BMW the fight for the FIA WTCC title starts in Curitiba
This weekend sees the start of the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), with the “Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba” hosting the opening two rounds of the series for the third consecutive season. BMW has entered its three national teams and their five drivers with the express aim of recapturing both world championships. To date BMW has scored four drivers’ and three manufacturers’ world titles in the touring car category.   “Naturally I am hopeful we will top the points’ charts in both championships at the end of the season,” says BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. “However, in motorsport such things cannot be planned. We can only work on our own performance, which we concentrated on throughout the winter. Once again it should be a close fight between us and SEAT, with Chevrolet being another worthy competitor. We are well prepared.”   Triple world champion Andy Priaulx (GB) will once again be ...
