Adrien Tambay defended his lead after the start. On lap six a slight collision between Tiago Geronimi (BR/Eifelland Racing) and Jim Pla (FR/DAMS Team) caused a Safety Car Period. After the restart on lap nine Gutierrez, the 2007 Rookie Champion from Formula BMW USA, put leader Tambay, the 2007 Rookie Champion from Formula BMW Germany, under pressure. But Tambay kept his position and was happy with his two podiums. These two wins and two pole positions mean that Tambay is now leading...

  • BMW Sauber F1 Team - Spanish GP - Race
Barcelona (ES). The BMW Sauber F1 Team ended up with five Championship points for Robert Kubica after an action packed Spanish Grand Prix. This means second in the Constructor’s standings ahead of McLaren Mercedes, who lost a car in a heavy accident. Initial information is that Heikki Kovalainen is ok. Nick Heidfeld had bad luck as he was forced to refuel during the subsequent safety car period. A stop and go penalty dropped him down from fifth to the back of the pack. Robert Kubica: 4th BMW Sauber F1.08-03 / BMW P86/8 Fastest Lap: 1.22.106 min on lap 20 (4th fastest overall) “We had a very good pace during today’s race. Unfortunately I lost a position at the start. Anyway at the end our gap to the leader was only five seconds. If someone had told me that yesterday I would not have believed it. I hope Heikki is ok. When I passed the accident I saw the car in a very strange position. The FIA is making great efforts for car safety, so we have to be really thankfu...

  • Priaulx scores sole point for BMW in difficult Mexican WTCC races.
In two difficult FIA World Touring Car Championship rounds in Puebla (MX), the BMW national team drivers had to make do with scoring just one point. It was BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB), who managed to walk away from Mexico with a point in the bag by finishing eighth in the afternoon race at the “Autódromo Miguel E. Abed“. SEAT’s Jordi Gené (ES) and Tiago Monteiro (PT) secured the race wins at the 3.240-kilometre track. Thus Mexico remains an unloved territory for BMW. In the six WTCC rounds held to date in Puebla, the manufacturer has only managed to celebrate one podium finish, back in 2005. In the Drivers’ Championship, Priaulx remains the best-placed BMW driver, having 14 points under his belt. The reigning champion ranks fifth, 12 points behind new championship leader Rickard Rydell (SE/SEAT). In the Manufacturers’ Championship, BMW holds second place behind SEAT, with a points’ tally of 40. Andy Priaulx (BMW Team UK): ...

I missed the chance to take pole position in Australia, but this time it worked out well. My first run in Q3 was quite good, but I made a small mistake in the first corner. The second run was better, although I again made a small mistake in corner 9. We knew before the season that the car was good due to the results of the computer simulation and the wind tunnel work. Finally it has paid off that we never gave up working hard. I want to thank the entire team who have worked so hard over the last months. We will now study the data and prepare for tomorrow. A long race lies ahe...

  • Farfus fastest BMW driver in Mexican WTCC qualifying.
Augusto Farfus (BR) of BMW Team Germany secured sixth place on the grid for the third round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. At the “Autódromo Miguel E. Abed” in Puebla-Amozoc (MX), the 24-year-old recorded the sixth-fastest time in the dying seconds of the qualifying session, setting a time of 1:41.583 minutes. SEAT driver Jordi Gené (ES) clocked a 1:40.808-minute lap and claimed pole position for the first of Sunday’s two sprint races. “As we expected, it was a truly difficult qualifying,” said Farfus after the session. “But I’m more than happy with sixth place. We knew that it would be very difficult to fight against the front-wheel drive cars. A big thank you goes to my team. Following the practice sessions, everyone worked extremely hard,...
