    2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Rounds 11 and 12 - 29th/30th July 2006 - Race Dirk Müller most successful BMW driver in difficult Puebla rounds. Puebla (Mexico), 30th July 2006. During rounds 11 and 12 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in Puebla, BMW Team Germany's Dirk Müller (GER) was the most successful driver of the BMW national teams. The 30-year-old managed to record sixth place in the first race and fourth position in race two. Next to Dirk Müller, Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK was also able to collect points at the "Autodromo Miguel E. Abed". Although he was forced to carry the maximum handicap weight of 80 kilograms on board, the reigning World Champion succeeded in fighting his way from last to seventh position in the second race.     2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Rounds 11 and 12 - 29th/30th July 2006 - Preview From Brazil to Mexico: WTCC races in Puebla for the second time. Munich, 24th July 2006. Six victories in ten races, 92 laps in the lead and first place in the drivers' classification. Following the first half of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), the BMW national teams can draw a positive half-time report. In the remaining five events of the season, the drivers are determined to continue to show good performances. Next weekend, the BMW drivers will have their first opportunity to do so, when rounds 11 and 12 of the series will be held in Puebla, Mexico. Following the races in Brazil, the event at the "Autodromo Miguel E. Abed" is the second stop this year for the series outside Europe.   • BMW TEAM PTG - PORTLAND GRAND PRIX - QUALIFYING AND RACE RESULTS
    Portland, Ore. - July 23, 2006... Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand, driving the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3, delivered the team's second podium finish of the season in yesterday's Portland Grand Prix. Starting from the fourth position, the duo completed 128 laps of the Portland International Raceway in the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute race, finishing 48 seconds behind the class winning Ferrari. Justin Marks and Bryan Sellers, driving the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3, finished eighth, two laps behind their teammates. After running quickly in practice and qualifying sessions Bill Auberlen started the No. 21 M3 and jumped into second as soon as the green flag waved. He pitted just past the one-hour mark. Joey Hand took over, rejoining the race in the third spot. He held his position, but the heat began to take its toll on driver and machine.   • BMW Team PTG M3s Qualify 4th and 8th for Portland Grand Prix
    Portland, Ore. – July 21, 2006… BMW Team PTG rebounded after a disappointing previous weekend’s Utah Grand Prix to run strongly in practice and qualifying for tomorrow’s Portland Grand Prix.Bill Auberlen qualified the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 he will share with Joey Hand fourth for the team’s second best qualifying effort of the season. His time of 1:13.375 minutes around the 1.944-mile Portland International Raceway was only .606 seconds from pole sitter Jaime Melo’s Ferrari. “It is so hot here that I knew I would only get one lap to set a quick time,” said Auberlen. “As I was exiting the pits I moved over to give a competitor room, but he slowed and held me up costing me valuable time.   • BMW Team PTG M3s Finish Sixth and Ninth in GT2 at Utah Grand Prix
    Tooele, Utah. – July 18, 2006… Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand, driving the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3, finished a team-best sixth in last weekend’s Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Starting from the eighth position the duo completed 58 laps of the 4.5-mile, 24-turn circuit in the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute contest. Combined with two consecutive top-five finishes in the last two races the sixth place moves the duo to 13th in GT2 driver points. Justin Marks and Bryan Sellers, driving the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3, finished ninth, completing two laps less than their teammates after having to make an unscheduled pit stop late in the race.They stand 18th in driver points.   • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM - FRENCH GP - RACE RESULTS
    Weather: sunny, dry and very hot, 34-36°C air, 47-56°C track Magny Cours (FRA). Nick Heidfeld secured another World Championship point for the BMW Sauber F1 Team in the French Grand Prix, after moving up from 11th on the grid to eighth. Jacques Villeneuve started from 16th and finished 11th in the hot Magny Cours race. Nick Heidfeld: 8th BMW Sauber F1.06-02/BMW P86 My car was okay, I scored a point and more was not possible today. Unusually for me, my start was only average. I didn't gain any positions, but I didn't lose any either. On the first lap I overtook David Coulthard in the hairpin, and that was important as at the finish he was only a few seconds behind me. All in all my race was trouble free and I rarely got stuck in traffic, although I was wrongly shown blue flags for Pedro de la Rosa.   • BMW Team PTG M3s Qualify 8th and 9th for Utah Grand Prix
    Tooele, Utah. – July 15, 2006… The new Miller Motorsports Park circuit just outside Salt Lake City, Utah proved a challenge for BMW Team PTG as they qualified their two BMW M3s eighth and ninth in the GT2 field for today’s inaugural American Le Mans Series Utah Grand Prix. Joey Hand, who will co-drive the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 with Bill Auberlen, qualified eighth with a time of 2:48.759 minutes around the 4.5-mile, 24-turn track. Justin Marks qualified the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 ninth with a time of 2:50.414 minutes. He will share the car with Bryan Sellers in the race. BMW Team PTG recently delivered their best finish of the season, a third and fourth, at the New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park on July 1. The two-hour-and-forty-five-minute Utah Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. local time today. The race will be broadcast on CBS television at 2 p.m. ET tomorrow....

  • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM APPOINTS MARKUS DUESMANN AS HEAD OF POWERTRAIN F1
    BMW Sauber F1 Team appoints Markus Duesmann as Head of Powertrain F1 Munich, 10th July 2006. The technical division of the BMW Sauber F1 Team is expanding further: as of 1st January 2007, Markus Duesmann will take the responsibility in Munich as head of Powertrain Formula One. Duesmann takes over the position from Heinz Paschen, who will leave the company by mutual consent. Duesmann will report directly to BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. Willy Rampf remains Technical Director of the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Theissen says: "Markus Duesmann has approached BMW, because he was looking for a new challenge. His ideas for the way of working and leading a team match our point of view. We are convinced Markus Duesmann is the right person to fill this key position. His experience will aid us to continue the building process for one team based in two locations, in Munich and Hinwil.   • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM - U.S. GRAND PRIX - RACE RESULTS
    Weather: sunny, dry and very hot, 36-37°C air, 38-55°C track Indianapolis (USA). After a good qualifying performance the BMW Sauber F1 Team left the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday empty handed. Nick Heidfeld had moved up to seventh after the start when he was involved in a first corner accident. His car rolled several times, but the German escaped unhurt. Jacques Villeneuve was also seventh when he retired on lap 24 with an engine failure.   • BMW TEAM PTG M3s FINISH THIRD AND FOURTH IN GT2 AT LIME ROCK PARK
    Lakeville, Conn. - July 1, 2006... Joey Hand and Bill Auberlen, driving the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 finished third in today’s New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. The duo completed 160 laps around the 1.54-mile circuit in the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute contest. Continuing the momentum of a fourth and fifth place team finish in Round 3 at Mid-Ohio, BMW Team PTG teammates Justin Marks and Bryan Sellers, driving the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 finished fourth, completing 158 laps, to again deliver a season’s best performance for BMW's M3 racing program.     2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Rounds 9 and 10 - 01st/02nd July 2006 - Race Priaulx celebrates his fourth win of the season - Zanardi on the podium. Curitiba (Brazil), 02nd July 2006. At the FIA World Touring Car Championship's (WTCC) first appearance in South America, Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK secured his fourth win of the season. The reigning World Champion won the second race at the 'Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba'. Behind Priaulx and Alfa Romeo driver Gianni Morbidelli (ITA) it was BMW Team Italy-Spain's Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) who achieved his first podium finish this year. The 39-year-old started race one from last on the grid following a mistake in qualifying. However, he delivered an impressive revival and was rewarded with third place.
