BMW aims at claiming further victories in Oschersleben. Munich, 29th May 2006. For rounds seven and eight of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), the BMW national teams are returning to a traditionally successful location. During the last eight races in the "Motorsport Arena Oschersleben", a BMW driver was able to claim victory seven times. Last year, Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK secured victory in the first race. In race two, BMW Team Italy-Spain driver Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) provided emotional moments when he won the first race since his accident in 2001, in which he lost both legs. The 39-year-old will enter the races in Oschersleben without additional weights - jut like his team-mate Marcel Costa (ESP). Following two difficult races in Brands Hatch, Priaulx, as well as the two drivers of BMW Team Germany, Jörg Müller (GER) and Dirk Müller (GER), are hoping to be able to benefit form the fact that they will compete with less handicap weight ...

  • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM - GP MONACO - RACE
Weather: dry, 24°C air, 27°C track Monaco. Despite a disappointing qualifying, the BMW Sauber F1 Team still managed to collect two more championship points at the Monaco Grand Prix when Nick Heidfeld finished seventh. Jacques Villeneuve finished the race but was out of the points. Nick Heidfeld: 7th BMW Sauber F1.06-02/BMW P86 Fastest Lap: 1:17.319 min on lap 72 (11th fastest overall) I am extremely happy with today. Before the race not everyone was optimistic, but you should never give up. It could have turned out completely differently, but we were lucky with the circumstances and also made the most of what we had. At the start I gained four positions, but then I slowed as I thought I had damaged the car. It turned out I just used the tyres too hard, especially the rears. I pitted earlier than planned and after the safety car I just looked after the rear tyres. I was not sure about getting points here, but in Monaco the most important thing is not to make mistakes and that wa...

Lexington, Ohio - May 21, 2006... Both BMW Team PTG M3s delivered top-five GT2 finishes in today's American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio as the team bounced back from two disappointing results in the two opening races of the series. Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand, driving the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 finished fourth, completing 109 laps of the 2.2.5-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the two-hour-and-forty-five minute Round 3 race. Justin Marks and Bryan Sellers finished fifth, two laps behind their teammates, in the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3. Deciding to change tire compounds after yesterday's qualifying session, the two BMW Team PTG M3s started at the rear of the nine car GT2 field. After the green flag waved, Bill Auberlen, in the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3, and Justin Marks, in the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3, moved to the fourth and fifth positions respectively in the opening laps of the race. As the first hour was completed Auberlen held on to fourth with Marks dropping back to sixth. The first c...

  • WTCC - ROUNDS 5 AND 6 - RACE
2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Rounds 5 and 6- 20th/21st May 2006 - Race Bad luck for BMW at WTCC debut at Brands Hatch. Brands Hatch (Great Britain), 21st May 2006. The BMW national teams experienced two difficult FIA World Touring Car Championship races at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit. Local hero Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK and BMW Team Germany's Dirk Müller (GER) scored a total of five championship points. The other BMW drivers left the classic race venue empty-handed. Yvan Muller (FRA) claimed victory in the first race, Alain Menu (SUI) was on the highest step of the podium after the second race. "This has been a disappointing race weekend for us," said BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, who followed both race from the pit lane. "Obviously we had less grip than our competitors in the wet. That was also the reason for Andy's off-track moment in the second race which cost him a possible race win. We are now set to return to the to...

  • BMW SAUBER F1 - SPANISH GP - RACE & QUALIFYING
Weather: sunny and dry, 26-27°C air, 41-43°C track Barcelona (ESP). BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld qualified tenth in Barcelona. His team-mate, Jacques Villeneuve, will start from the back of the grid with a fresh engine for the Spanish Grand Prix. Nick Heidfeld: BMW Sauber F1.06-02/BMW P86 Qualifying: 10th, 1:17.144 min (3rd practice 3rd, 1:16.057 min) I am happy to be in the top ten as the lap times are quite close. I think it would have been difficult to beat the other cars in front of us, and even though I lost some time with Ralf in front, honestly I don't think it would have changed anything regarding my position. The set up was fine on one lap, and I hope we can see the same tomorrow over a race distance. The balance of the car changed, and it was quite different for all three outings. Jacques Villeneuve: BMW Sauber F1.06-03/BMW P86 Qualifying: 14th, 1:15.847 min (3rd practice 17th, 1:17.924 min) The first run went very easily and the balance was very good, but ...

  • BMW TEAM PTG FAILS TO FINISH IN HOUSTON
Houston, Tx. - May 13, 2006... For the second time in as many races BMW Team PTG failed to finish as both BMW M3s experienced mechanical problems and were forced to retire from last night's American Le Mans Series Lone Star Grand Prix in Houston, Texas. Starting ninth, the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 of Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand completed only 50 laps around the 1.69-mile temporary street circuit after two long stops in the garage for repairs to the brake system. The No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 of Justin Marks and Martin Jensen started seventh and was racing in the fifth position before being forced to retire on lap 25 with a driveshaft failure. "Although my race was a short one, I was happy with the pace of the No. 22 M3," said Marks. "We made progress in finding the setup here. Unfortunately, just after I passed for the fifth position the driveshaft coupling failed on a downshift." "We have definitely been fighting a brake gremlin here," said Auberlen. "We ...

  • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM - SPANISH GP - PRACTICE
Weather: sunny and dry in the afternoon, 19-23°C air, 21-42°C track Barcelona (ESP). It was a trouble-free first practice day in Spain for all three BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers. As usual Robert Kubica had a heavy work load and completed 55 laps, while Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve got used to the Barcelona track and its changing conditions, which saw rain in the morning and bright sunshine in the afternoon. Nick Heidfeld: BMW Sauber F1.06-02/BMW P86 1st Practice: No time / 2nd Practice: 12th, 1:17.622s We had a trouble free day with everything running smoothly, and my work included the tyre comparisons. Robert Kubica: BMW Sauber F1.06-05/BMW P86 1st Practice: 4th, 1:16.628s / 2nd Practice: 13th, 1:17.844s In the morning the track was wet, so we had to wait for it to dry and there was no grip. We concentrated on tyre testing, and this went pretty well. We need to be sure of the right decisions for the race and we have come to some conclusions, so that is important. In the ...

  • BMW TEAM PTG M3s QUALIFY 8th AND 9th FOR LONE STAR GRAND PRIX
Houston, TX. - May 11, 2006... Today's two 50-minute practice sessions did not prove to be enough time for BMW Team PTG to come to grips with the temporary Houston circuit today as the team qualified its two M3s eighth and ninth in the GT2 field for tomorrow's American Le Mans Series Lone Star Grand Prix. Only Justin Marks, driving the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3, took to the track for the 20-minute qualifying session. His time of 1:13.186 minutes around the 1.7-mile track was his quickest of the day, but was only fast enough for the eighth starting position. "I am disappointed that we are not faster, but I know we used our time wisely today and definitely made progress," said Marks, who will co-drive with Martin Jensen. "I believe we will continue to improve and am cautiously optimistic that we will see a good finish in the race tomorrow. Anything can happen in a street race like this." The No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 of Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand experienced a mechanical p...

  • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM - EUROPEAN GP - RESULTS
European Grand Prix – Race, Sunday – 07.05.06 Weather: sunny and dry, Air 20°C, Track 38-39°C Nürburg (DEU). After excellent starts and a promising first part of the race, at the end of the day the race pace of the BMW Sauber F1.06 was not good enough. Jacques Villeneuve came eighth in the European Grand Prix at the Nürburigng and scored one point for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Nick Heidfeld finished tenth. Jacques Villeneuve: 8th BMW Sauber F1.06-03/BMW P86 Fastest Lap: 1:34.037 min on lap 38 (12th fastest overall) Overall a good result for us. It was very close with Fisichella and was a good battle. With the car he had I thought he would overtake me, but he stayed behind until the second pit stop so that was good. Coming out of the pits each time with a high fuel load the car was hard to drive, but once we got the tyres used up the rhythm was good as the older the tyres were the better the car felt. Nick Heidfeld: 10th BMW Sauber F1.06-05/BMW P86 Fastest La...

  • BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM - EUROPEAN GP - PRACTICE
Weather: sunny and dry, 20-23°C air, 33-40°C track Nürburg (DEU). Although both first day practice sessions for the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring were flawless for the BMW Sauber F1 Team, the drivers were not happy with the balance of their cars. Robert Kubica: 1st Practice: 3rd, 1:32.852s / 2nd Practice: 8th, 1:33.991s They were good sessions and we concentrated mainly on longer distance runs to see how the tyres would perform in the race, as we struggled a lot in Imola. We wanted to see which are the best tyres. The choice was not easy, but we did lots of laps and have lots of data. We were not really looking for the lap times, but regards the pace I think we are consistent. It could be better, but we are not looking that bad compared to the other third drivers. We have to improve quite a lot of things. Nick Heidfeld: 1st Practice: No time / 2nd Practice: 20th, 1:35.308s Although we had no technical issues, I was not happy with the balance of my car. The re...
