  • BMW TEAM PTG RETURNS TO DAYTONA WITH FOUR M3s
    Woodcliff Lake, NJ - June 29, 2005... BMW Team PTG will return to its full complement of four GT class BMW M3s at the June 30th Brumos Porsche 250 looking to move up in the Rolex Sports Car Series GT class points battle. With practice, qualifying and a 250-mile race packed into one long day and night, the traditional summer return to Daytona International Speedway marks the half-way point of the 2005 season. BMW Team PTG has won three of the six races to-date and BMW stands second in GT Manufacturer points. Following the first win of the season at the April 3rd Grand American 400 at California Speedway, BMW Team PTG swept the GT podium of the Road and Track 250 at Laguna Seca on May1. The third win came at the Six Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant on May 22....

  • BMW TEAM PTG M3s FINISH 3rd, 8th AND 11th IN THE SAHLEN'S SIX HOURS OF THE GLEN
    Watkins Glen, N.Y. - June 12, 2005... The No. 16 BMW Team PTG F1 Air M3 of Justin Marks, Tom Milner and RJ Valentine took a hard-fought third-place finish in the GT class of today's Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. They completed 145 laps in the six-hour contest that was marked by nine caution periods and rain in the final three hours that required many pit stops to change back and forth from dry and rain tires. The No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 of Ian James, Chris Gleason and Boris Said experienced problems during the race, ultimately finishing eighth. The trio completed 139 laps. The No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 of Bill Auberlen, Joey Hand and Kelly Collins ran in the top-three for the early part of the race until a rare suspension breakage sidelined the car. The crew rallied to repair the car and it finished the race five laps in arrears of the No. 22 M3.   • WTCC - ROUNDS 9 AND 10 - MEXICO - RACE
    BMW driver Dirk Müller keeps his championship lead in Mexico. Amozoc, Puebla (Mexico), 26th June 2005. After two difficult races in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in Mexico, BMW has maintained its lead in the Drivers' Championship. Dirk Müller (GER) failed to gain any points in the series' successful overseas debut, but nevertheless travels back to Europe as the championship leader. In both championships the competition is more exciting than ever after the Mexican rounds of the WTCC. BMW Team Italy-Spain's Antonio Garcia (ESP) was the most successful BMW driver at the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed and improved to fourth place in the championship after adding 12 points to his tally.In the first race of the day, Fabrizio Giovanardi (Alfa Romeo) took victory ahead of his fellow Alfa driver, Gabriele Tarquini, and SEAT driver Rickard Rydell.   • JEREZ TEST, JUNE 23th - 24th 2005
    The BMW WilliamsF1 Team completed a two day test at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, in Spain, today. Nick Heidfeld and the team's test driver, Antonio Pizzonia, were on duty on both days and completed a comprehensive programme developing the MK2 bodywork in preparation for the next round of the season, the French Grand Prix, to be held in France on 3rd July. Over the two days, Heidfeld and Pizzonia completed 243 laps, a total of just over 1,000 kms. The team's next test will again be in Jerez, after the French / British double header.   • FORMULA BMW USA - ROUND 8 - INDIANAPOLIS - RACE
    Philippe Wins His Third of the Season at Indy Indianapolis, Ind. - June 19, 2005. Formula BMW USA Junior driver Richard Philippe (Team Autotecnica) won Round 8 of the 2005 Formula BMW USA Series today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In taking his third win of the season, the 15-year old Frenchman, who makes Key Biscayne, Florida his home, passed polesitter Jonathan Summerton (Walker Racing) before the first turn, finishing 4.2 seconds ahead of Tobias Hegewald (Atlantic Racing Team) in the 13-lap contest. Overall points leader Kevin Lacroix (AIM Autosport) finished third.Following post-race technical inspection second-place finisher Hegewald was excluded from the results moving Lacroix to second and Wickens to third.   • FORMULA BMW USA - ROUNDS 7 - INDIANAPOLIS - RACE
    Davison Breaks Through in Round 7 Indianapolis, Ind. - June 18, 2005. Formula BMW USA continued to make history at Indianapolis today as 18-year old James Davison (HBR Motorsport Team USA) won Round 7 of the 2005 Formula BMW USA Series. He finished 3.534 seconds ahead of Richard Philippe (Team Autotecnica) in the 13-lap contest, becoming the fourth winner of the season. Robert Wickens (Team Apex Racing USA) came from the 10th starting position to finish third. Davison became the second Australian to ever win a race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Grand Prix circuit. Making the victory even sweeter, the first Aussie winner here was his cousin Alex in 2002, keeping the Indy-winning a family affair.The race was under caution almost as soon as it began. Reed Stevens, Ryan Campbell and Rob Bunker got together just as the green flag waved and the resulting yellow flag slowed the race for three laps.   • FRENCH GRAND PRIX, JULY 1st - 3rd 2005 - PREVIEW
    Formula One returns to European soil next weekend for the tenth round of the championship, the French Grand Prix. Following events in Indianapolis, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team is eager to resume normal service and provide the sport's fans with an entertaining race. Having won five out of the fourteen French Grands Prix to have been staged at the Circuit de Nevers, WilliamsF1 equals Ferrari as the most successful team ever to have raced at Magny-Cours.     2005 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX Indianapolis (USA), 19th June 2005. The Michelin teams deeply regret the position that they have been put in today and would like to apologise to all the spectators, TV viewers, Formula One fans and sponsors for not being able to take part in today's USA Grand Prix. Following Ralf Schumacher's accident on Friday morning, we were advised by Michelin that none of the tyres that were available to the teams could be used unless the vehicle speed in turn 13 was reduced. Without this Michelin did not consider the tyre to be safe to be used for the race.All the teams are confident in Michelin and trust their advice as we know they are competent and responsible and their written instruction to us not to race unless changes to the circuit were made was accepted....

  • BMW MANAGED FORMULA ONE TEAM FROM 2006
    BMW realigns its Formula One involvement. Munich, 22nd June 2005. BMW is striking out on a new path in Formula One. After acquiring a majority shareholding in the Swiss Sauber team, a BMW managed team will be contesting the Formula One World Championship as early as 2006. This was decided by the BMW Board of Management on Tuesday. It means that, for the first time in company history, BMW will be competing independently in Formula One. Professor Burkhard Göschel, BMW Board Member for Development and Purchasing: "This decision is a strong, long-term affirmation of BMW's commitment to Formula One. The 2005 Formula BMW USA season reaches its halfway point at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, providing the ultimate venue for 23 eager young Formula BMW competitors to show some of the finest entry-level, open-wheel racing in the world. As the preparations for the United States Grand Prix weekend begin, the battle for the title of 2005 Formula BMW USA Champion is tightening up considerably. Prior to the Round 6 race at Montreal on Sunday, only Kevin Lacroix (AIM Autosport) and Richard Philippe (Team Autotecnica) had reached the top of the podium. Philippe has two wins (R2, R4) while Overall and Rookie Points leader Lacroix has three (R1, R3, R5).     Lacroix wins one for the home team. Montreal, Quebec, Canada - June 11, 2005. BMW Junior and Rookie driver Kevin Lacroix (AIM Autosport) won the most important race of his 16-year old life today as he drove from the fourth starting position to win Round 5 of the Formula BMW USA Series at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Lacroix overtook pole sitter Tobias Hegewald on the first lap and went on to take the victory in front of his home Canadian Grand Prix crowd, extending his lead in both the Overall and Rookie points.     Wickens scores his first Formula BMW USA victory Montreal, Quebec, Canada - June 12, 2005. The Canadian National Anthem played for the second time this weekend as BMW Junior and Rookie driver Robert Wickens (Team Apex Racing USA) won Round 6 of the Formula BMW USA Series at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. 16-year old Wickens, of Etobicoke, Ontario, the third-place finisher of yesterday's Round 5 race, finished 3.440 seconds ahead of fellow BMW Junior Reed Stevens (HBR Motorsport Team USA) in the 12 lap contest. Wickens, starting from the sixth starting position, took over the lead from polesitter Tobias Hegewald (Atlantic Racing Team) on lap seven.   • FORMULA BMW USA ROUNDS 5 & 6, MONTREAL - PREVIEW
    The Formula BMW USA Championship takes to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve next Friday, June 10th, for the first practice session of the Round 5 and 6 weekend, and 22 young drivers will literally be following in the tire tracks of their racing heroes.  Friday's 30-minute practice session is scheduled to begin immediately after Formula One's first free-practice of the weekend. At 4:55 p.m., the starting positions for both Rounds 5 and 6 will be determined by each driver's two quickest times in a single 30-minute qualifying session. The performance of the drivers and their team during that qualifying session will likely be the key to success or disappointment in the two races that follow because, as in Formula One, a good starting position most often translates to a good finishing position. St-Eustache, Quebec's Kevin Lacroix and Richard Philippe have each won two Rounds this season.
