  • WTCC - ROUNDS 7 & 8 - IMOLA - RACE
The BMW national teams had travelled to Imola for races seven and eight of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) without nurturing any great hopes. As in Silverstone a fortnight go, the BMW drivers had to line up with a weight handicap of 20 kilograms compared to their front-wheel-drive rivals. But after the races at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, a victory by Dirk Müller (GER) of BMW Team Deutschland and four podium places add another good overall result to the tally. Driving in temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, Antonio Garcia (ESP) for BMW Team Italy-Spain managed to finish as runner-up in the first race behind Fabrizio Giovanardi (Alfa Romeo). Third-placed finisher Dirk Müller joined him on the podium. The reigning European Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK came fourth, while Garcia's team-mate, local hero Alessandro Zanardi (ITA), crossed the line in eighth place to capture a World Championship point. BMW Team Deutschland driver J&ou...

Following Nick's second place in Monaco, and securing his maiden pole position yesterday, Nick Heidfeld came today second at the Grand Prix of Europe, giving the BMW WilliamsF1 Team another positive result in the space of a week. Unfortunately, team-mate Mark Webber retired from the race just after the start, after an accident on turn one.   Nick Heidfeld: 2nd Best time: 1:31.124 (lap 9, 4th overall)Chassis: FW27 04 / BMW P84/5 engine 1st GP It's obviously great to be second today after yesterday's pole position of. I didn't think I was able to win, but a podium finish was within reach. We knew that Kimi would have a better start and in fact he went in front from the start, but I still had a go at him into the first corner but ultimately he held on to his position. I pushed as hard as I could in the first stint to open a good gap from the cars behind me and our strategy of three stops paid off, because towa...

Weather: dry, sunny. Air 30-31°C, Track 47-49°C Nurburgring (GER) On an unseasonally hot day in May, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team placed both its drivers among the top three fastest, with Nick Heidfeld securing pole, his career first at the front of the grid. GPIt is fantastic to get my first pole position in Formula One after so many years, and it is even more to have achieved it here at my home Grand Prix in front of my supporters. There is not much more one could ask for. I didn't do too much running yesterday and I was a bit concerned this would affect my performance today, but obviously we made the right tyre choice. In the 1920s and 1930s, he achieved endless victories, championships and speed records on two wheels; he was also on the list of winners of many international races on four wheels. Holger Lapp, Head of BMW Mobile Tradition, was personally moved by the death of Ernst Henne: "Ernst Jakob Henne was not only a versatile, successful racing driver who gained the respect of his competitors and the admiration of his fans through his sporting successes. He was also an extremely fair sportsman who was also very popular off the racetrack because of his model behaviour. I am happy to have known this extraordinary personality in BMW history on a personal basis."   Ernst Jakob Henne was born on 22.02.1904 as the fourth child of a master saddler in Weiler near Wangen im Allgäu. • WTCC - Rounds 7 and 8 - Imola - Preview
Sports award gives Alex Zanardi added incentive for Imola. Imola (Italy), 23rd May 2005. This weekend the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) will be stopping off in Imola for races seven and eight. As with Formula One, San Marino will be hosting the event at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. BMW will again be competing as the leader of the Constructors' Championship. After the races at Silverstone, BMW tops the rankings with 81 points, ahead of Alfa Romeo (75) and SEAT (60). As was the case in the British races, the FIA will once more be granting a weight reduction of 20 kilograms to all front-wheel-drive cars, which again means a disadvantage for the rear-wheel-drive BMW models.   In the Drivers' Championship, things could hardly be much tighter after race six out of 20. A mere five World Championship points separate the first four drivers. Dirk Müller (GER) of BMW Team Deutschland leads with 32 points ahead of Alfa Romeo's Gabriele Tarquini, who has a tally of 30. Nick Heidfeld: 2nd Best time: 1:17.159 (lap 15, 9th overall)Chassis: FW27 04 / BMW P84/5 engine 2nd GP I am very very pleased to get my best ever result here in Monaco. I had a very good start and I even touched Mark at the first corner, but that's racing. But then I was stuck with other drivers behind Trulli for some time so I tried to save fuel and tyres. When the safety car came out and the engineers called us both in, the guys did a fantastic job in getting us out so quickly. Then I was lucky because the engineers decided to take a risk and pit earlier, for my second stop and this allowed me to get ahead of Mark. A lot of car...

  • BMW TEAM PTG GOES FOR THREE GT WINS IN A ROWAT MONT-TREMBLANT
BMW Team PTG will enter three BMW M3s in this weekend's 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant in an attempt to make it three GT wins in a row for the defending 2004 Rolex Sports Car Series GT champions. Following its class victory at the April 3rd Grand American 400 at California Speedway with a 1-2-3 M3 class sweep of the Road and Track 250 at Laguna Seca, BMW Team PTG is back performing in the same manner they did when they won seven races in a row last year. "Our plan was always to bring three M3s to Mont-Tremblant," said BMW Team PTG owner, Tom Milner. "Not only does this give us a little more time to repair the car damaged at Laguna Seca, but, as we showed there, we can still get the job done. This is a very competitive series and we dug ourselves quite a hole in the first two races of the year. We will race for wins, but every point we score is important."   Rearranging eight of the best drivers in any road racing series Joey Hand will join the No. 16 F1 Air M3 of Tom Milner ...

  • MONACO GRAND PRIX PREVIEW, MAY 19 - 22, 2005
Celebrated as the jewel in the Formula One crown, the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix gets underway in just over a week's time. The Principality, playground of the rich and famous, will play host to the sixth round of the season, a year which has seen the BMW WilliamsF1 Team achieve less than their exacting standards, thus far. Currently lying in fourth place in the Constructors' table, the team hope the FW27s will benefit from yet more aero developments and a productive test this week at Vallelunga, the Italian track which bears considerable resemblance to the narrow, twisting Mediterranean street circuit. F1's showpiece event is one of the most challenging races on the calendar which rewards a strong qualifying performance and a good race strategy but one which equally punishes even the smallest of errors. Having won in Monte Carlo three times, the last victory claimed by Juan Pablo Montoya in 2003, the team are hoping for a more rewarding outcome at this Grand Prix.   Mark Webber:"No...

  • SPANISH GRAND PRIX
Weather: Sunny, dry. Temp: Air 24-25°C, Track 45-46°C Barcelona (ESP). Mark Webber collected three points today for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team, finishing in 6th position. Team-mate Nick Heidfeld fought his way up from 17th on the grid to 10th place.   Mark Webber: 6th Best time: 1:16.761in (lap 62, 9th overall)Chassis: FW27 05 - BMW P84/5 engine 1st GP The start was tricky because I was on the dirty side of the track and I lost one position there. I didn't want to risk too much with Ralf Schumacher at the first corner to protect my position. Then I was stuck for a while behind Ralf and Alonso, which was a shame, because I was lighter than them. We decided to change strategy and go for two stops instead of three but the fuel load was quite hard on the tyres then, causing quite a bit of deterioration and consequent vibrations in the car. At the end of the day we collected some useful points....
