  • Belgian GP - Race
Weather: Overcast, dry. Temp: Air 20-21°C, Track 19-25°C, Humidity 59-63% Spa (BEL). The BMW WilliamsF1 Team suffered bad luck today, with neither car crossing the finish line despite showing a strong performance. Juan Pablo Montoya and Antonio Pizzonia failed to collect any points from an exciting and eventful Belgian Grand Prix due to a tyre failure for the Colombian and a gearbox problem for the Brazilian. The problems spelt a premature end to their races when both drivers were running in a strong third position. Juan Pablo Montoya: DNF (tyre failure on lap 37) Chassis: FW26 06 Best time: 1:46.547 min (lap36, 6th overall)Bad luck again, today. The car was really good and I was having a good race and running third with a few laps to go, but then the right rear tyre failed, and some other parts of the car were damaged forcing me to retire. That's racing, what can you do? It's not the first time that this has happened and probably not the last, but one has to accept it. Still, it w...
  • ETCC - Rounds 15 and 16 - Imola - Preview
Munich, 27 August, 2004. There may still be six more races left in the FIA ETCC but there is a strong chance of BMW coming away from the next round in Imola with the Manufacturers' Championship title battle sown up. The gap between BMW and Alfa Romeo is 78 points, so a strong showing by the drivers in the BMW national teams could win the coveted title for the second year running when the series visits the Imola track for the first time. However, the situation is very different in the Drivers' Championship as the top three, all of whom happen to drive a BMW 320i, are separated by just five points. BMW Team Deutschland's Dirk Müller (GER) is in front, second is his team-mate, Jörg Müller, (GER) and third is BMW Team Great Britain's Andy Priaulx (GBR). They are all equally determined to win the series, and no doubt Jörg still remembers the disappointment of missing out in 2003 by a single point....
  • Belgian GP - Qualifying
Weather: Intermittent rain. Air 17-18°C, Track 19-10°C, Humidity 88-92% Spa (BEL). Bad weather severely hampered today's running, with both Free Practice sessions being cut down from 90minutes to only 15 and Qualifying being run under intermittent rain. In the morning, Antonio Pizzonia went off the track and damaged his car. For tomorrow's race, Juan Pablo Montoya will start from the 6th row on the grid, having qualified 11th, whereas team-mate Pizzonia will start from 14th position. Juan Pablo Montoya: 11th (1.59,681 min)Chassis: FW26 05 (T-car FW06) Bad luck for me in today's qualifying. The track was starting to dry out and we decided to use intermediate tyres, like Trulli, Alonso and Coulthard who went out just before me. However, already on my out lap it started to rain quite hard, which made it very difficult to keep the car on the track and as a result I lost a lot of time. There was no grip at all! It's a shame because in the morning we looked quite competitive in the wet a...

  • Formula BMW UK Championship - Rounds 17&18 - Rockingham - Pre-event
Rockingham could be a crunch event for the Formula BMW UK Championship as Philip Glew (Soper Sport), Tim Bridgman and Josh Fisher (Motaworld - Quantexe Racing) fight for the coveted drivers' title. Although anyone in the top six points places has a mathematical chance of winning the title, in reality the champion is likely to be one of these three. The last time the drivers were at the Northamptonshire track was for a cold test day in February when they had to wait for the snow to be brushed away. Things will be a lot hotter this time in many ways. Josh Fisher is hoping that he will be one of those having a good weekend as he is coming from behind in his title attack after several disappointing retirements at the beginning of the year. "I am trying not to think about the championship as I believe that was why I didn't do so well at Brands Hatch. I am going for a win at Rockingham as I want to take more victories than any other driver," he said. Josh is one of the drivers who has race...
  • The new BMW M5
Woodcliff Lake, NJ, July 2, 2004...It has been 20 years since the launch of the first BMW M5. After three generations, more the 35,000 sales and countless attempts by competitors to emulate its performance and success, the BMW M5 still makes its position as the benchmark. Each successive generation has extended the bounds of both performance and luxury. The last generation M5, the most successful ever, significantly pushed the performance envelope with the first V8 from BMW M, mated to a six-speed transmission.   The all-new fourth generation M5 pushes that envelope even further with the first V10 engine to power a production sedan. The new V10 produces 507 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque by European measure. This new engine is mated to a seven-speed SMG transmission. With this new powertrain the M5 offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. In the tradition of BMW M, the chassis has been engineered to keep up with the power while the exterior treatment is subtle, ye...
  • Formula BMW Asia - Rounds 9&10 - Autopolis - Pre-event
Formula BMW Asia heads to Japan's Autopolis Circuit for Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2004 season on September 4 and 5, where series leader Marchy Lee (Team Meritus) of Hong Kong hopes to clinch the drivers' title, but much will depend on the performance of 24-year-old South Korean, You Kyong-Ouk (BMW Korea E-Rain). "It would be great to win the series in Japan as I would be the new Formula BMW Asia champion when we arrive in Shanghai," Lee said recently, speaking about China's first Formula 1 Grand Prix for which the series will be a support event. Going in to the next rounds, Lee is on 150 points with You on 93.So far Lee has won all but one of the eight rounds of the series, and is completely focussed on winning the championship. "I set out at the start of the year to really make my mark in Formula BMW Asia and I am determined to take the title," he said. However, You will be going all out to keep his championship aspirations alive and given his strong showing so far this year which has ...

Brands Hatch. Joao Urbano (Carlin Motorsport Team Portugal) and James Sutton (Fortec Motorsport) shared the wins and second places in Brands Hatch. They dominated the races with pole position to chequered flag performances for Joao in race one and James in race two. The final podium position was taken by Tim Bridgman in race one and Philip Glew (Soper Sport) in race two. In the points table the battle is still close between the top three Philip, Tim and Josh Fisher (Motaworld Quantexe Racing). However, a win in race two has put him 46 points ahead of his nearest rival Sam Bird (Carlin Motorsport)....

For the Hungarian Grand Prix, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team will again field Antonio Pizzonia to deputise for Ralf Schumacher, whose convalescence continues well, although prudence dictates he will miss both the Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix. Montoya and Pizzonia's FW26 race cars will also appear visually distinct in Hungary, with a revised, and more 'traditional', nose profile which has been validated as an improved geometry in relation to the other aerodynamic improvements released at recent races.
