Wirth moved in front of Jaskol on lap 7. The race began to settle into a fast rhythm until Summerton spun off the track at turn two on lap 13. Brian Frisselle had moved from his seventh starting spot to take a firm hold on third. A bobble in Lime Rock?s only left-hand turn gave Joey Hand (Team PTG Motorsport) a chance at Frisselle, but the youngster from Hawaii held off H...

  • FORMULA BMW USA CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS AT LIME ROCK THIS WEEKEND
    Woodcliff Lake, NJ ? May 28, 2004? The face of open-wheel racing in North America is set to change this holiday weekend as the first two rounds of the inaugural Formula BMW USA Championship take the green flag at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. ?It is fitting that Formula BMW USA begins on Memorial Day Weekend,? said Alex Schmuck, Formula BMW USA Manager. ?Traditionally, it is a very important weekend for motorsports and the unofficial start of the summer. For Formula BMW USA to begin our summer season on the same weekend as the Indianapolis 500 and, this year, the European Grand Prix is wonderful and completely appropriate. As Formula BMW has done in Germany, Asia and the United Kingdom we begin our own, new tradition, this weekend.? Sixteen young drivers will line up for the first standing start of the 14-race season on Saturday, May 29. The second race will be held on Monday, May 31....

  • EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX, May 28 - 30, 2004 - PREVIEW
    Following an eventful race at Monaco, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team heads to Germany this week for the European Grand Prix hosted at the Nürburgring. The seventh round of the FIA Formula One World Championship marks the first of several back-to-back races and the first of BMW's home races this season. A high downforce circuit, with several overtaking opportunities, the Nürburgring is a demanding track for both driver and machine. However, the venue has often proved fortuitous for the team with Ralf claiming his first win of the season there last year, while Juan Pablo clinched second place to secure a one-two victory for the team. With the season progressing, expectations will be high at the European Grand Prix for a more exacting performance from the Anglo-German partnership....

  • MONACO GRAND PRIX - RACE, May 23, 2004
    Weather: Dry, partly cloudy. Temp: Air 22°C, Track 39°C, Humidity 58% Monaco (MCO). In an eventful 2004 Monaco Grand Prix last years' winner Juan Pablo Montoya finished fourth, scoring five more championship points for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team. Team-mate Ralf Schumacher, after having been forced to start from 12th place, having lost 10 grid positions due to the fact his engine was changed, was on his way to pick up one further point, but had to stop with a gearbox failure with just a few laps to go....

  • BMW Team PTG Wins Third Rolex Series GT Victory in a Row at Mont-Tremblant;
    Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, CANADA (May, 23, 2004) ? BMW Team PTG drivers Boris Said and Bill Auberlen claimed their third Rolex Sports Car Series GT win in a row at the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant today. The win moved the pair to the top of the Driver?s Point Standings and BMW to within 10 points of the lead in the Manufacturer?s Standings. Said and Auberlen started the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 from the pole and covered 191 laps around the 2.65-mile road course. The race ended under a yellow flag, but BMW Team PTG?s third victory was undecided until the final minutes of the six-hour contest....

  • BMW Team PTG Goes For Three Wins in a Row at Mont-Tremblant
    Winchester, Va. (May 19, 2004) ? BMW Team PTG travels to Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 21-23 in search of its third Rolex Sports Car Series GT win in a row at the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant. BMW Team PTG will have to overcome more than a language difference if they are to capture that third victory. This will be the team?s first visit to the twisty 2.65-mile, 15-turn track north of the border so there will be no past data to rely on. Veteran drivers Bill Auberlen and Boris Said have competed at the track before, but it will be all new for the drivers of the No. 22 M3. Both Justin Marks and Joey Hand will be making their first starts at the track. Possibly the greatest challenge will be that the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant is the second longest race of the season to-date, requiring the greatest effort from the cars, crew and drivers since the season opener at the Rolex 24 at Daytona....

  • MONACO GRAND PRIX, MAY 21 - 23, 2004 - PREVIEW
    At the heart of the razzamatazz that makes the Monaco Grand Prix Formula One's blue ribbon event, is a very serious intent. After a less than rewarding start to the 2004 season, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team returns to the scene of last year's memorable victory on the narrow and punishing Mediterranean street circuit. Replicating the form that saw Ralf Schumacher claim pole and team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya win the race is a tall order, due in part to the idiosyncratic nature of the track which disproportionately rewards qualifying prowess. Regardless, the team prepare for the race in the knowledge that a strong performance could be a catalyst to revised fortunes for the remainder of the season....

  • ETCC - Round 7and 8 - HOCKENHEIM PREVIEW
    BMW HEADS FOR FIRST HOME RACE OF THE SEASON Munich, 10 May, 2004. BMW leads the FIA ETCC Manufacturers' Championship as the series heads to Hockenheim for the first of two rounds to be held in Germany. However, as this is a new circuit to the series the four national teams can only hope the positive results from winter testing there can translate into good race results.BMW Team Deutschland's Dirk Müller won a championship title there in 1998 so has very happy memories of the 'old' track. However, the circuit has changed considerably since then and not to universal approval from the drivers. "I liked the old Hockenheim much more because of the long, narrow straights where slipstreaming was possible. It is now completely different.," said Dirk. It is the fourth track used this year and the third where Formula 1 Grands Prix are held. Dirk went on to describe its characteristics: "It is a typical Formula 1 track and I don't think it is particularly challenging for us. You have to have a...

  • SPANISH GRAND PRIX - RACE 9th May 2004
    Weather: Sunny and dry. Temp: Air 20-21°C, Track 31-38°C, Humidity 43-53% Barcelona (SPA). Ralf Schumacher today achieved sixth place for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team, reconfirming his qualifying position. Juan Pablo Montoya had his first DNF of the season due to a brake problem.Ralf Schumacher: 6th Chassis: FW26 07Best time: 1:18.548 min (lap 27, 8th overall)The result, more or less, reflects our current performances. We could not have achieved a much better position, even with a better start. Furthermore, I had to fight very early on with some brake problems, which meant I had to be very gentle on them until the end. I knew Barcelona was not among our favourite tracks, however I expected more. We must work very hard on our performance in order to make our way back to the top....

  • SPANISH GRAND PRIX, MAY 7 - 9, 2004 - PREVIEW
    The BMW WilliamsF1 Team will travel to Barcelona next week, home of the Spanish Grand Prix, and the fifth round of the 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship. Despite being one of the primary testing venues for the teams, the 4.6 metre circuit provides the backdrop for one of the more challenging races on the calendar. The fickle climate often demands continual set-up changes while the prevailing wind conditions can compromise aerodynamic efficiency. Having spent the week testing new developments at Silverstone this week, the team are looking forward to the 14th Spanish Grand Prix and re-claiming ground lost in the first four races. Historically, WilliamsF1 have enjoyed good fortune at the Spanish track, having won five out of the thirteen Grands Prix hosted by Catalunya since 1991. Following the formation of the Anglo-German alliance in 2000, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team have enjoyed moderate success in Spain, with Montoya's 2nd places in 2001 and 2002, and are now looking to improve on...
