BMW Motorsport made the perfect start to the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) season with a one-two in the GT class at the 12-hour race in Sebring (US). While BMW Team RLL was responsible for the two BMW M3 GT cars at the curtain-raiser to the season, BMW Team Schnitzer will take over for the next races in Europe and the finale in China. They will be joined for the 24-hour race in Le Mans (FR) by Dirk Werner (DE), the regular BMW Team RLL driver in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Müller and Werner gave BMW the best possible finish to the 2010 ILMC season with a win in the GT class in Zhuhai (CN). In the second BMW M3 GT (number 56), three-time world touring car champion Andy Priaulx (GB) will contest all the races in the ILMC and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The Le Mans race will be Hand’s first outing on European soil for BMW Motorsport. His outright victory at the 24-hour race in Daytona driving the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Powered Daytona Prototype at the start of the year and success at the 12-hour race in Sebring were timely reminders of the American’s talent ahead of the team selection for Le Mans. • Curitiba: podium for Tom Coronel and ROAL Motorsport in the FIA WTCC 2011 opener
Comeback in FIA WTCC with podium for ROAL Motorsport in Curitiba (Brazil) in the opening round of 2011. After the eighth place in qualifying, Tom Coronel produced a strong performance in race one and a long battle with rivals brought him to be the first BMW driver when he crossed the finish line in fourth position. The Dutch driver had also a thrilling race two, he got the lead at the start thanks to a perfect getaway. Coronel led the race for several laps defending himself from Alain Menu's Chevrolet, with the latter having the best of him only in the finale. Coronel finished second anyway and celebrated on the podium the Brazilian weekend. Roberto Ravaglia (ROAL Motorsport, Team Principal): "I am more than satisfied with the weekend's result: after finishing the car assembly we did have just the time to shake it down before shipping everything to Brazil therefore our target for Curitiba was to finish in the top five - six positions. The race at the “Sebring International Raceway” not only counts towards the American Le Mans Series, but also the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. For BMW Team RLL, last season’s ALMS 2010 GT Team and Manufacturer champions, this is their third ALMS win after scoring back-to-back victories in Road America (US) in 2009 and 2010. Now the Bobby Rahal (US) led squad celebrated its maiden triumph in Sebring. The latest class win for the BMW M3 at this event dates back to 1998, when Bor...

  • Half time in Sebring: BMW Team RLL runs in second and third.
BMW Team RLL successfully made it through the first half of the 12-hour race in Sebring (US): Both its BMW M3 GT cars ran within the top-3 of the GT category at the season opener of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) after six hours. Andy Priaulx (GB) was at the wheel of the second-placed no. 56 BMW M3 GT, when halftime was reached at the “Sebring International Raceway”. The second BMW M3 GT, driven by Dirk Werner (DE), followed closely behind in third. The opening phase of the race did not run as planned for car number 56. Over the course of the first stint, Dirk Müller (DE) was involved in two incidents, which saw him dropping back to the back of the field. However, Müller crawled his way back up, as did Joey Hand (US) from lap 45. Following a pit stop on lap 80, the American took over the lead for the first time, after his team-mates in the no. 55 BMW M3 GT had already led the race earlier in the race. On lap 95, Hand handed over the car to triple world touring car champion P...

  • BimmerWorld Has Mixed GS Results at Homestead-Miami
The Homestead Round Two race was difficult for the BimmerWorld team but progress in the development of the team's new-for-2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Grand Sport (GS) BMW M3s wasn't expected to be easy. The duo had plenty of pace and got as high as second in the race, but a gamble on strategy failed to pay off for one car while the other was hit from behind for the second consecutive race. As team owner/driver James Clay explains, Homestead's final results don't tell the full tale of the weekend, and the progress being made by the team and drivers on the new BimmerWorld M3s has everyone feeling very optimistic about the rest of the season. "We knew coming into this GS program that we had to play catch-up on over a year of development to other teams that aren't exactly resting on their past achievements. The BimmerWorld crew worked incredibly hard back at the shop preparing for this event, and implemented a lot of refinements and changes for Homestead. As a rac...

  • BimmerWorld Perseveres Through Frustrating Run In ST Class At Homestead-Miami
Now in its sophomore season in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series, BimmerWorld Racing has established itself as one of the premier entrants in the paddock, but that doesn't mean the BMW experts from Dublin, Virginia are immune to the lows that occasionally temper the highs they've experienced since joining the series in 2010. In what can only be described as an abnormal result for BimmerWorld's pair of BMW 328is, the No. 80 entry driven by 2010 MESCO Rookie of the Year Bill Heumann and David White battled back from adversity to take 13th place at the end of the race at Homestead-Miami, and the No. 81 BMW 328i of Gregory Liefooghe and John Capestro-DuBets settled for 33rd place in ST after suffering a freak engine failure. Team owner James Clay has grown to expect pole positions, wins and fastest laps from BimmerWorld's rapid ST BMWs, and even though the Homestead-Miami race didn't live up to expectations, he says there's no need to let the event slow their mome...

  • Cattaneo and Trinkler Third at Homestead in RSR Motorsports MINI
The No. 198 RSR Motorsports MINI Cooper S started from the back of the field during Saturday’s GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but Sarah Cattaneo and Owen Trinkler gave the team a reason to celebrate after finishing third in the Street Tuner class. A motor swap on the morning of race day meant the No. 198 MINI—sponsored by Cruise America, Thor Motor Coach and US LED—had to go to the back of the starting grid. Cattaneo, who had the ST pole there in 2010, put the MINI’s prowess in the infield to good use: she was in the top 15 by the end of her stint. Trinkler drove the car to the checkered flag. He was in sixth when a late-race caution closed up the field. He went from sixth to third in the final eight minutes of the race to give RSR Motorsports a repeat of their podium finish at Homestead last year. “We hadn’t even thought a podium finish was in the cards,” says Cattaneo, who also carries sponsorship from Global Jet. “...

  • TURNER MOTORSPORT SWEEPS GRAND-PRIX OF MIAMI
It is said that March comes in like a lion, but today it was Turner Motorsport that stormed into Homestead-Miami Speedway for a double victory at the GRAND-AM Grand Prix of Miami weekend. BMW ace Bill Auberlen and co-driver Paul Dalla Lana paired up in two different Turner Motorsport BMW M3s to win the GT class in the Grand Prix of Miami and the GS class victory in the Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge Kia 200. It was only the second time in GRAND-AM history that two drivers won both GT and GS races on the same day. "This double-win weekend is the result of all the focused work from everyone at Turner Motorsport," said team owner Will Turner. "The foundation of our business is to develop and prove the parts that we sell. Racing drives our parts sales during the week as much as parts sales drive our racing on the weekend. The two sides of the businesses go hand in hand. It's great to deliver two wins so early in the season to all of our partners, H&R Springs, StopTech Brakes, B...

  • BimmerWorld Ready to Resume the Fight at Homestead-Miami Raceway
For a team that doubled in size, made its debut with a two-car effort in the Grand Sport (GS) category and fielded two new drivers in the Street tuner (ST) class at Daytona, the BMW experts at BimmerWorld Racing came away pleased from the first race of the 2011 championship. But they are also hungry for better results. ST veteran Greg Liefooghe, partnered with series rookie and rising star John Capestro-DuBets (JCD), stormed to a podium finish on their debut for the team in the No. 81 BimmerWorld BMW E90 328i. Ken Wilden and Bob Michaelian took sixth in GS, serving notice that BimmerWorld's new BMW E92 M3 cars would soon be challenging for podiums. And the newly expanded BimmerWorld team performed flawless pit stops throughout the 2.5-hour Daytona 200 race. While Daytona left the team with many positives to embrace, it was the list of improvements that meant the most to BimmerWorld owner/driver James Clay and the spirited workforce at the team's Dublin, Va.-based shop. With a month ...
