  • BMW Team Germany celebrates a one-two in Valencia.
Augusto Farfus (BR) was the winner of the FIA World Touring Car Championship’s tenth round. At the “Circuit de la Comunitat” in Valencia (ES), the BMW Team Germany driver scored his tenth WTCC victory. Jörg Müller (DE) finished second, thus making it the first BMW one-two since Brno 2008. The other BMW national team drivers also collected points: BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB) was fourth, while Alessandro Zanardi (IT) and Sergio Hernández (ES) came fifth and sixth respectively for BMW Team Italy-Spain. In the first race of the day Hernández secured pole position for race two by finishing eighth, with Farfus, Müller and Priaulx coming fourth, fifth and sixth. Victory went to SEAT driver Yvan Muller (FR). In the Drivers’ Championship Farfus successfully reduced the gap to leader Muller. • BMW national teams aim to continue upward trend in Valencia.
The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) approaches its next round. This weekend, the BMW national teams will be battling for points and victories at the “Circuit de la Comunitat” in Valencia (ES). Following the good performance in Pau (FR), where BMW Team Germany’s Augusto Farfus (BR) picked up 16 points and moved to second in the Drivers’ Championship, the BMW drivers are now determined to make up more ground in the World Championship.   However, there is a question mark over the current balance of power in the World Touring Car Championship. The FIA Touring Car Bureau has once again made changes to the technical regulations, including raising the supercharged air pressure of the SEAT turbodiesel engines to 2.7 bar plus overboost spikes which last less than one second.   In addition Farfus, his team-mate, Jörg Müller (DE), BMW Team UK driver Andy Priaulx (GB) and Sergio Hernández (ES) from BMW Team Italy-Spain will line up w...

  • BMW RAHAL LETTERMAN RACING TEAM UTAH GRAND PRIX RACE SUMMARY
The BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team soldiered to seventh and eighth place finishes in today’s American Le Mans Series Utah Grand Prix. Despite strong qualifying results, prospects for the race outcome were altered at the start. When the green flag flew, a series of car-to-car contacts throughout the field culminated in an incident between the two BMW M3s in Turn One. As a consequence of the collision, teammates Tommy Milner and Bill Auberlen were forced to the pits for extensive repairs in the opening minutes of the race. Each M3 re-entered the race more than five laps down from the GT2 leader. The balance of the race was without incident as Milner pitted the No. 92 M3 after 38 laps to hand over to Dirk Müller. Auberlen pitted eight laps later and Joey Hand took the wheel of the No. 90 M3. Although Müller and Auberlen made late stops for fuel, both drivers were able to regain two class positions over the course of their stints. Martin Birkmann, BMW of North Americ...

  • Farfus finishes second twice in Pau – Müller also on the podium for BMW.
BMW Team Germany’s Augusto Farfus (BR) emerged as the most successful BMW driver in rounds seven and eight of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. He finished second in both races. Sergio Hérnandez (ES) came fifth in race one, Alessandro Zanardi (IT) achieved the same feat in the second race of the day.   In the Drivers’ Championship, Farfus now has 39 points to his name and successfully reduced the gap to the leader, Yvan Muller (FR), to six points. • BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx claims his first pole position in 2009.
In qualifying for round seven of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Pau (FR), BMW Team UK driver Andy Priaulx (GB) secured pole position. Setting a lap time of 1:22.462 minutes, the triple world champion relegated BMW Team Germany’s Augusto Farfus (BR) and SEAT driver Tom Coronel (NL) to second and third respectively. For Priaulx this is his first pole since the 2006 Macau race weekend and the fifth of his WTCC career. In Puebla (MX) Priaulx and Farfus also shared the front row of the grid, but in reverse order.   Apart from Priaulx and Farfus, a further four BMW drivers went through into the decisive top-ten qualifying at the “Circuit de Pau Ville”. Jörg Müller (DE) from BMW Team Germany came fourth, BMW Team Italy-Spain’s Sergio Hernández (ES) finished eighth. The two BMW privateer drivers, Félix Porteiro (ES) and Franz Engstler (DE), rounded off the excellent BMW overall result by taking ninth and tenth on the grid. &ld...

  • BMW national teams get European WTCC season underway in Pau.
The action comes thick and fast in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC): just 14 days after the series’ successful debut in Morocco, this weekend sees races seven and eight on the programme. After the long straights in Marrakech (MA), a real street circuit awaits the BMW national teams at the curtain-raiser to the European season in Pau (FR) – with high kerbs and a lot of tight corners.   The compensation weights remain unchanged for the BMW drivers after the two races in Africa. BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB), the two BMW Team Germany drivers, Augusto Farfus (BR) and Jörg Müller (DE), and Sergio Hernández from BMW Team Italy-Spain must once again carry an additional 40 kilograms in France. Hernández’ team-mate, Alessandro Zanardi (IT), the only BMW driver with a six-speed sequential gearbox, will again be 20 kilograms lighter in his BMW 320si WTCC.   Andy Priaulx (BMW Team UK): “I like the atmosphere in Pa...

  • BMW Team Germany scores points at WTCC debut in Morocco.
BMW Team Germany added some points to its tally in rounds five and six of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in Marrakech (MA). BMW private driver Franz Engstler (DE) had a satisfying afternoon, as by finishing eighth in race two he scored a championship point. The second round was won by Nicola Larini (IT, Chevrolet).   The first FIA World Championship races on Moroccan soil since 1958 were less successful for the other BMW national team drivers. BMW Team UK’s Andy Priaulx (GB) missed a points’ finish in race one after crossing the line tenth and had to retire in the second race of the day. BMW Team Italy-Spain driver Sergio Hern&a...

  • Three BMW drivers qualify for top-ten grid positions in Morocco.
In qualifying for the fifth round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in Marrakech (MA), a trio of BMW drivers successfully made it into the top-ten. BMW privateer, Franz Engstler (DE), surprised everyone by setting a 1:51.643-minute lap and taking eighth on the grid for his team at the “Circuit de Marrakech”. BMW Team Germany’s Jörg Müller (DE) finished ninth. Due to damaging a tyre early on in the session, the 39-year-old was denied the chance to compete for top positions in the second part of qualifying.   BMW Team UK driver, Andy Priaulx (GB), also managed to qualify for “Q2” after coming eighth in the first phase. However, following an unlucky collision with BMW Team Italy-Spain’s Sergio Hernández (ES), who finished 18th, shortly before the end of “Q1” the triple world champion was also robbed of his chance to secure a better result. Hernández’ team-mate, Alessandro Zanardi (IT) misse...
