  • BMW SIGNS AUGUSTO FARFUS FOR THE 2007 WTCC SEASON

    2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Munich, 01st December 2006. BMW has signed Augusto Farfus (BRA) as a works driver for the FIA World Touring Car Championship. The 23-year-old is going to contest the 2007 season at the wheel of a Schnitzer Motorsport BMW 320si WTCC and will team up with Jörg Müller (GER). In the past two years Farfus also raced in the World Championship and succeeded in impressing with his remarkable achievements. "I'm delighted that the up-and-coming touring car ace Augusto Farfus will line up for us in 2007," said BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "Since having made his debut in the 2004 European Touring Car Championship he has learned a lot and displayed a steep upward trend.     German Grand Prix - Race, Sunday - 30.07.06 Weather: sunny and dry, 32-33°C air, 49-51°C track Hockenheim (DEU). Neither of the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers finished the German Grand Prix. Nick Heidfeld retired after ten laps because of rear brake damage following an incident after the start. Jacques Villeneuve's race was over shortly before half distance when he crashed into the barriers. Nick Heidfeld: Retired end of lap 10 BMW Sauber F1.06-02/BMW P86 My start was only average, but in the second corner I managed to overtake several cars on the outside, and among them was Jacques. Although I braked very late, I got through the corner all right. Then I suddenly felt a hit on the right rear. I had to pit with a right rear puncture and changed all the tyres. This weekend, the FIA World Touring Car Championship stages its season finale at the "Guia Circuit" in Macau (CHN).     Munich, 08th November 2006. The countdown for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) season finale is on. Prior to rounds 19 and 20 at Macau's (CHN) "Guia Circuit", nine drivers are still in the fight for the drivers' title. Three contenders are racing a BMW 320si WTCC: Reigning champion Andy Priaulx (GBR) of BMW Team UK as well as both BMW Team Germany drivers, Jörg Müller (GER) and Dirk Müller (GER). In addition, BMW holds the lead in the Manufacturers' Championship and is set to defend the title in the former Portuguese colony.   • TIMO GLOCK TO TEST FOR THE BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM

    Munich/Hinwil, 7th November 2006. The BMW Sauber F1 Team will be starting its test drives for the 2007 season on 28th November. During the first test in Barcelona and the second in Jerez, 24-year-old German driver Timo Glock will be granted the opportunity to take an F1.06 out onto the track. "This test drive was planned long ago but had to be postponed due to the hand injury that Timo sustained in the GP2 race in Monza. We have kept a close eye on Timo Glock since his successful time in Formula BMW and are now keen to get a more accurate impression. Thanks to his successful performance in various race series, Timo was an obvious choice for the test drives," explains BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen.
