  • BIMMERWORLD RACING DONATES WINNINGS TO WHEELCHAIR FOUNDATION
    Jeff:  This is absolutely awesome.  Congrats to the team for a great season and a great charitable donation of the race winnings!   BLACKSBURG, Va. (Oct. 27, 2004) ? BimmerWorld Racing drivers Seth Thomas, James Clay and Matt Richmond donated $7,500 of the team?s winnings to the Wheelchair Foundation in a check presentation ceremony following the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race Sunday, Oct. 17 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.             Thomas and Clay presented the check to Jason Katz, Associate Director of Community Relations for the Wheelchair Foundation, which will be used to purchase 100 new wheelchairs for those in need. ?The Wheelchair Foundation is grateful for the support that BimmerWorld Racing has shown us,? In the final race of the 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship the BMW WilliamsF1 Team celebrated its first victory of the season: Juan Pablo Montoya became the winner of the Brazilian Grand Prix by a margin of 1.0 second. It is the fourth F1 win for the Colombian and the tenth win since the beginning of the BMW and WilliamsF1 partnership in 2000. The last race won by the team was also thanks to Montoya, in Hockenheim, on 3rd August 2003. Ralf Schumacher, who drove his last race for the team as did Montoya, came fifth. Montoya finished his season fifth in the Drivers' Championship, Schumacher ended up in 9th place having missed six races through injury.     CREW CHIEF MARKS WINS ZIMMERMANN CUP   BLACKSBURG, Va. (Oct. 19, 2004) ? BimmerWorld Racing?s crew and crew chief Jason Marks were honored at the SCCA SPEED World Challenge year-end banquet Sunday night by winning the SPEED Touring Car Crew of the Year award, while Marks was awarded the Zimmermann Cup. The BimmerWorld crew was recognized for their tireless efforts throughout this season, as they were voted Crew of the Year by the SCCA SPEED World Challenge teams. Under Marks leadership, the three-car BimmerWorld team became quite proficient at fixing crash damaged cars on short notice, while still making them competitive. This was evidenced when Marks and his crew helped drivers James Clay, Seth Thomas and Matt Richmond finish third, fourth and fifth, respectively, at Road Atlanta following the Round Nine SPEED Touring Car race. ?It was a nice way to show the amount of work my guys put into it this year,? BimmerWorld Racing drivers James Clay, of Blacksburg, Va., rookie Seth Thomas, of Cumming, Ga., and Matt Richmond, of Mooresville, N.C., finished the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car season today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, as part of the Audi Sports Car Championships.             Coming off a solid third, fourth and fifth place finish at Road Atlanta three weeks ago, Clay, Thomas and Richmond had a tougher time taming the 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit at Laguna Seca this weekend. Clay, who started ninth on the grid, got a great launch in his No. 36 BimmerWorld/Ground Control/Wheel Chair Foundation BMW 325i from the standing start. Under constantly changing weather conditions, BMW Team PTG scored its ninth Rolex Sports Car Series GT class victory and fifth 1-2 BMW M3 finish of the season in the Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park today.     JEREZ TEST 28th - 30th September 2004 SummaryThe BMW WilliamsF1 Team completed a three day test at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in southern Spain today. Official test driver, Antonio Pizzonia, was scheduled to test for the three days but was sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained while in China. Consequently, Olivier Beretta, who drove for the French Larrousse team in 1994 and who has intermittently tested for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team since 2002, was brought in to partner Marc Gené for the first day of the test. Ralf Schumacher subsequently replaced Olivier for the remaining two days. Ralf, Marc and Olivier completed a combined total of 482 laps of the Jerez circuit, a distance of 2,134 kilometers over the three day period.
