    BMW FINISHES SECOND IN 2003 SPEED GT MANUFACTURER'S CHAMPIONSHIP; AUBERLEN SECOND IN DRIVER'S CHAMPIONSHIPIn its first season of SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship competition, BMW Team PTG captured two seconds: a second-place finish for BMW in the Speed GT Manufacturer's Championship and a second for Bill Auberlen in the Driver's Championship.The 10-race Speed GT season brought BMW four pole positions, five fastest race laps and three race wins.Behind Auberlen in second in the Driver's Championship were Hans Stuck in fourth, Boris Said sixth and Justin Marks seventh.BMW Team PTG experienced a second disappointing weekend in a row and its second straight non-podium finish in the final and 10th round of the 2003 SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship race at the Isla Grand Prix Circuit in San Juan, Puerto Rico.Hans Stuck scored the best BMW M3 finish of fourth, with Auberlen just behind him in fifth.     Puerto Rico Qualifying: BMW Team PTG to Start Fourth, Fifth, Seventh and 10th in Speed GTBoris Said was the quickest of the BMW Team PTG M3 drivers in today's 30-minute qualifying session for the 10th and final round of the 2003 SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship at the Isla Grand Prix Circuit in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His 1:09.329 lap around the 1.6-mile, 10-turn circuit was good for the fourth starting spot - his fifth top-five start this season.Bill Auberlen, second in the Speed GT Driver's Championship standings and chasing the title, qualified fifth with a 1:09.372 lap. He made a second charge for the pole in the closing minutes of the session, but went wide in the last corner and was forced to abort his attempt.     Auberlen quickest in both Speed GT practice sessions: BMW Team PTG drivers stand first, fourth, fifth and eighthThe Speed GT-class cars had the honor of being the first to take to the new 1.6-mile, 10-turn Isla Grand Prix Circuit in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in this morning's 35-minute practice session for the 10th and deciding race of the2003 SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship.BMW Team PTG driver Bill Auberlen set the fastest time of this first session of two with a 1:10.328 lap.PTG teammate Hans Stuck was sixth (1:11.651), Boris Said seventh (1:11.751) and Justin Marks ninth (1:11.888).In the 35-minute afternoon session all four BMW Team PTG drivers improved their morning times with Auberlen again topping the time sheet with a1:09.484 lap.     Road Atlanta Qualifying: BMW Team PTG to Start third, seventh, eighth and 13thToday's 20-minute qualifying for Round 9 of the 2003 SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., was a two-part affair after an early accident and resulting track clean-up resulted in a split and abbreviated session.Bill Auberlen quickly got up to speed in his BMW Team PTG M3 with a 1:28.842 lap around the 2.54-mile circuit for the fastest Team PTG time of the day.He elected not to go out again and will start in the third starting spot.Hans Stuck waited out the delay and went back out shaving another .364 of a second off his first quick time and will start seventh (1:29.459).Boris Said will start next to his BMW Team PTG teammate in eighth (1:29.510) after setting his best time of the weekend early in the session.     Auberlen and Stuck quickest in the afternoon; BMW Team PTG drivers stand third, fifth, seventh and ninth after today's Speed GT practiceIn the combined results following today's two 20-minute practice sessions for Friday's Round 9 of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., the four BMW M3s of BMW Team PTG stand in good position with all four cars in the top 10.Bill Auberlen is third quickest overall with a time of 1:29.125, the fastest time overall in the afternoon session. Hans Stuck ran second to Auberlen in the afternoon, also improving his morning time for fifth fastest time of the day (1:29.332).Auberlen and Stuck were two of only three drivers in the top 10 overall who went faster in the heat of the afternoon's 4:00 p.m. session.     2003 European Touring Car Championship Rounds 17, 18 - 4/5 October, Estoril (Portugal) - RACE Privateer BMW Team takes first Trophy of the Season While the BMW national teams found life difficult against the Alfa Romeos in Estoril it was Duncan Huisman in the Carly Motors entered 320i who won the first trophy of the season for BMW. Duncan clinched the Independents' Trophy after the first race of the day. In the overall battle Jörg Müller (BMW Team Deutschland) and Andy Priaulx (BMW Team Great Britain) kept their championship hopes alive by each claiming a fourth place and now Jörg and Gabriele Tarquini go to the last two races in Monza on equal points. However, the situation in the Manufacturers' Championship looks very healthy for BMW as the marque needs just two more points to take the title....

    2003 European Touring Car Championship Rounds 17,18 - 4/5 October, Estoril (Portugal) - QUALIFYING BMW Ready for a Sunday Battle The BMW national teams are prepared for what will be a tough couple of races on Sunday with the Alfa Romeo drivers. Although they were hoping the fastest 320i in qualifying would be higher than fifth, which is where Dirk Müller's BMW Team Deutschland car will start the race, none of them have given up hope of podium positions to keep the championship hopes alive. Sadly an engine failure in the first session for Fabrizio Giovanardi means he will have to start the race in his BMW Team Italy-Spain car from last place, but he will have new tyres for both races....
